Beretta Px4 Storm
« on: December 30, 2012, 11:52:45 AM »
Ok, I've been looking at this one for quite a while and am about to "pull the trigger" so to speak...  I thought that I'd get some opinions from my fellow AHers before I go to pick it up.  I'm considering going with the .40 version, but am on the fence as of now.

Have any of you guys out there fired this one?  Heard anything positive/negative about it?

Any info/opinions are greatly appreciated.

I had a Beretta Cougar .40 caliber with the rotating barrel.  I never had any malfunctions with it, but decided I was more comfortable carrying a weapon that was a little less complicated for self-defense.  As for less felt recoil, I never felt there was any difference between it and my other .40s.

I carried a Cougar in .40 and reverted back to a S&W J-Frame .38.   I'd recommend a Glock, Sig or HK.   I personally own an HK, but enjoy shooting my friends Glock's and Sig's.

Curious, why'd ya go back?  Any specific reason?

I have had the PX4 in .40 for about 1.5 yrs.  The recoil is compensated by the barrel making a quarter inch turn to the left when the action cycles.  Big plus is it comes with 14 rd. mags, but it will hold a 17 rd. that you can get from Beretta pretty reasonably.

The  one thing i didn't like was the factory sights...... non-adjustable.  Mine was hitting low right of point of aim.  Beretta sells an adjustable set for $60......but the tool to remove/replace it costs $130.  I wound up letting a gun-smith I know change them for me, but still have the tool.  I will post pics later of before and after.

I have a full-size .40, and I like it just fine.  Recoil is reasonable, and the mags lock up nice and tight with no rattle.  It serves my purposes as a mid-size pistol, as it splits the difference between my 92FS and my Makarov.

Watch those mag feed lips when they're new, though.  I carved up the tip of my finger something fierce when loading one.  Never had that happen before... ouch.

I looked at them before buying our SR40's, couldn't find any PX4's for range guns when I was looking to try one out.  I always like to be able to fire or ask somebody I trust about a firearm before purchase.  What I've heard has been mostly good on them though, but I don't know anyone that personally has one.
