Range Squelch/toggle
« on: January 07, 2013, 10:05:29 AM »
A quick search of the forums shows that Range Channel Vox squelch/Toggle has been asked for before, many times,, with nearly universal agreement. But I've never seen HiTech comment on it.

HiTech,

Is this a feature you would consider adding in the future?   :salute

I seem to recall that hitech has responded to these sorts of things saying that the option to turn them off functionally removes them as they are no longer reliable enough to be useful.

Can you clarify? I'm not really sure what that means.  :salute

It means that if people turn it off it stops being useful because the guy telling you about the Hurricane on your 6 and seeing you do nothing as you take the 20mm enema, and seeing that kind of thing repeatedly, stops trying to even use the tool.

This implies that it is reliable now.  :rofl

I think the community will live with the consequences of not being warned about stuff from time to time if range has a toggle.

There are a high percentage of folks that don't have a mic, and high percent of Squads that run seperate systems like Ventrilo, just to avoid the Range chatter. Range works, and has it's useful purpose. But it also has a very big down side. It is my belief that the community and gameplay will still thrive if a Range toggle were enabled. Most people would want it on most of the time. In very crowded situations, some would choose to target who they can hear. Of course in real life I could tune my plane/vehicle radio so I didn't have to listen to everything, being said by everybody, in radio range. In such situations, "communication" isn't happening anyway.

Not having a mike doesn't stop one from hearing the warning about the approaching Hurricane.

Turning the volume down all the way squelches the range chatter quite effectively .  :aok

In the radio buffer, if you right click on "All" you can adjust the radio traffic, turn off room/range, pm's and the like  and adjust the size of the font in the radio buffer. You can also add radio tabs set just the way you like, but it would be nice to turn of range vox sometimes. When you turn off PM's and get a check 6 it just doesn't tell you who sent the check six but you still get it.

A switch for range vox.

A symbol or coloration of allied tag... say "VinkmanΩ" means he's squelched ranged coms would suffice...

Yes, but seriously Karnak, is HTC really afraid of what will happen to game play due to some missing "check Six" messages?

I wonder what the communitie's opinion is on how often they get a check six, when one is needed?  :D

I for one would be happy with a larger squelch list.  There are always those who think every last thing they do in game is vox worthy and that every one wants to hear it... play by play.

If I want to hear someone yappin all dam night about nothing I would go over to my mother in laws house.

If you want peace of mind, find a nice room and lock yourself in it for a couple hours.

If your getting annoyed at other players for in-game stuff, it means you probably should learn to chill out a bit.
