Friendly Collisions on Once Airborne
« on: January 11, 2013, 03:51:37 PM »
As a default setting, when on the ground (landed), Friendly collisions off. But once airborne, its on.

It would dramatically change the pack of yappy-dogs chasing the lone rabbit that occurs now. It would also force pilots to be more cautious and eliminate the kill stealing... nothing more face-palming than running into a peer countrymen because you wanted to steal his kill.

And it could also be a public achievement - run into friendly's 5-10 times, you earn the 'purple moron' award for killing your peers.

No.  People would use it to collide intentionally with others.  Remove the threat of being shot down and you'll have idiots flying around somebody until they find the collision point.

+1  It would make the flying more realistic.  Keep killshooter on, to keep people from deliberately killing friendlies.

-1.

While realistic in approach, it would be horribly misused by people grouching about not being given a chk 6 etc. etc.

Plus, don't we already have enough gripes about the collision model? Although its the best solution that can be practically derived, people just don't want to get that through their thick noggins.

And lastly, it would make squad formation flying (if anyone ever does that) near impossible. In the good ole days (back when H2H was free) we had done some rather extensive testing and found variations as large as 800 yards between two friendlies in formation. You wouldn't want to see your squadmate who's 500 ahead of you suddenly go spiraling to his death because on his comp your prop mowed his tail off.

EDIT:
Quoting here:
Here is an animation someone  (Lusche?) put together. It shows the film OVERLAPPED of a single collision, but the views are from the two different computers.

Best explanation ever! Cant get clearer than that!

I like the idea but, intentional collisions aside, it wouldn't work because the runways are too busy. Taking off in one direction while a teammate takes off in another as soon as your wheels leave the ground you'd get whacked. Or both planes taking off in the same direction and neither player yields the "right of way", then you're both in the tower pissed at each other. Nice thought but just too impractical.

How do you guys not get that this would be abused with no recourse for the recipient of the abuse?
