NYC isn't just a city, it's like being in a completely different country no one else is used to. The boroughs each have their own pace and mind set. Staten Island stinks a lot in the summer from the land fill. I used to live in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn. No matter what though the myths are all true. The halloween parade in Washington Square Park beats any spectacle you could watch except Times Square on new years eve. The subways have a lot of different sports like dodging muggers, listening to drunks sing, or watching the graffitti go by out the window as you go over the bridges. It's the kind of place where you grow a situational awareness and can still stop and get a hot dog on the corner as you go look at land marks. That guy sounds better than most i've heard on the subway. You watch everyone walk around looking at the ground usually to give each other their privacy because of there being so many people. When the streets are empty in some parts in the early morning hours it's kind of wierd. "If I can make it there i can make it anywhere" is completely true. Most big cities have the same sentiment, in NY it's a lifestyle though.
