I'm not a military historian or an expert on any form of navy, but I think that the Auxiliary ships went out to the task group to re-fuel/re-arm/re-stock them then went home. If this is the case then I suggest we have those ships come to the CV's from the closest friendly port to resupply them, kind of like the truck convoys when they come from the "depot" or the barges when they come to the port. Killing them before they'd get to the CV would limit fuel/ords and maybe even certain planes.

If those ships actually followed the task group/CV then killing them would probably do the same kind of damage, but not as severe.

Explain the 10 battle stars while serving on an Auxiliary Oiler, then. AO-42 to be exact.  USS Monongahela.

I'm fairly certain that they didn't hand out battle stars for going home and hanging out.

How about a perked player controlled battleship?

Like I said, I'm not a navy expert or a military historian. That was my somewhat educated guess on what they possibly did.

i think a playable destroyer should be added, something like the Hms campbeltown
and when the ship is nearly destroyed you could bail into a lifeboat

Von Mesa  :aok +10

I would love a battleship but....

Instead of modeling a new ship it might be fun to add some capacity to our current ships. As an example, allow the CA and DDs to break from the CV and form a cruiser/destroyer squadron and hunt down the other CV task forces. Maybe if you do this you allow for all 5" guns to be manned, since you will likely go in harms way without aircover. Maybe even allow the DDs to fire off torpedos. I know this gets into a whole new level of ship activity so if it is too deep, skip this allow the others.

Second, allow for a plane to control the 8" guns of the CAs in game. Maybe it only works for the Avengers or SBD, but give them a Fire Control ability. This happened in real life, and shouldn't be too difficult to add. This would allow for much more accurate over-the-horizon bombardments. It will then add both a cause to escorting and protecting the TBMs, as well as a big reason to destroy the TBMs.

If you want enhanced naval play, maybe.

I believe you are referring to the Vought OS2U Kingfisher, launched from the stern of a battleship to aid in the fire control of the ships main guns. I don't think the Kingfisher pilot should be able to control the guns himself, but the pilot should be able to pinpoint the exact location of the fall of rounds on a map; only visible to the ship's gunner.

lifeboats  :aok

player controlled trains :aok

as I've wished in addition to the trains, i want player controlled passenger seats on the trains too, functional diner car and lavatories..

as an addition to the lifeboat, I want the option of just floating about in a life vest, maybe with a flare gun.  :rock

schools of sharks too.

F that.. player controlled schools of sharks to go after guys in life vests.. perked "jaws" to go after the lifeboats.

... and this would work exactly...how?

Exactly like they work now - the most accurate 5" I have ever seen!

Maybe then we could drop the normal 5" to be less of a SA-2 missile system...

VonMessa, First <S> to your Grandfather. Has he ever said what he thought when he saw his ship painted in dazzle cammo [or whatever that was called]?

Are you referring to the black and white striped paint?

I didn't think the US had used that.

Yes, it seems like that's the color scheme on the ship pictured.

Just a trick of the light, I think.

It was all gray.  I remember him telling me about how they used to sit in the boatswain's chair to paint it.

+1 for not requesting submarines.
