Moved Graphics Card, now no VOX
« on: January 25, 2013, 06:51:43 PM »
Was having the vox freezing when starting the game which has been happening for a while. Basically log in and tune to myself to check if the vox is working and the game would freeze for few seconds, advanced graphics would disable and then the game would unfreeze, I would reset the graphics setting and everything would be fine. So I decided tonight I would finally trouble shoot that issue. So first started and realized that on-board sound was on, so turned that off in the BIOS as I currently have a SB-XFi card.I also disabled "High Definition Audio Device" in Device Manager as well. Then noticed via device Manager the sound card and the video card (GTX 660 Ti SC) were on the same IRQ (16). I have plenty of open PCIE slots so I moved it to another one. Checked Device Manger and now the Video card is on 17 and sound card on 16. So proceed to go into the game, I have made no other changes than to move the card and turn off the on-board sound in the BIOS. I jump in the game, I can hear planes flying etc, tune to myself hit the transmit button no freeze, but now no VOX. I make sure the sound card and all the cables from my headset are plugged in correctly and they are. I go into Windows and troubleshoot for a while trying to record, still nothing. I even turned the on board sound back on, enabled the High Definition Audio device in device manager, still no vox. The sound card was not put into a new PCI slot or anything, just moved the video card and cannot for the life of me figure out why I can hear everything, but the MIC will not transmit? Hopefully someone has experienced this before and can guide me in the right direction? (Windows 7 machine 64bit)

When you start moving things around after the install of drivers etc....you will see this.  Uninstall re install and that should let the computer know to re assign orders to the component/s.  If you do this to more than one component reboot after a successful install of each component..do not try to install 2 or 3 then reboot.  Make sure you disable any on board stuff that you are not using first as this will open doors that were closed.

They call it "common sense", then why is it so uncommon?

Thanks ToeTag! Yeah I got frustrated and put everything back the way it was, tested it and it worked. I then went in and turned off the the onboard in the BIOS and disabled the other audio devices in device manager and it the vox still works. The strange thing was when I set it a certain way in the Creative software I could hear myself, but it would not record it. I think I will leave it for now and see if the onboard sound being on was the culprit for the freezing. If not, then I will move the card, and uninstall and reinstall the audio device as you suggested.  :salute

Edit: So even though I did not move the sound card physically I would need to uninstall and reinstall the sound card? I moved the graphics card and I did install the drivers for it and it was working fine. Just want to understand if I do go back in and move the graphics card again. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks,
Cole

I have learned that comps are smart enough to be really stupid.  Treat the moving of anything like a scratch build. Uninstall all drivers for devices and relocate each one ...one at a time. Then install driver and component #1 then reboot.  Next install driver and component #2 then reboot....and so on.
