Typhoon Question.
« on: January 27, 2013, 12:20:56 PM »
Lately iv'e been flying the Typhoon in offline missions to get the hang of it. Lots of torque to the right and high speed at most alts. It seems like I spray all of my cannon ammo and have to RTB with only 2-4 kills, rarely will I get 5 or more. Now I know that offline missions aren't exactly up to Training Arena standards, but its all I have for the time being. What I want to know is if there's a possibility to get that fat bird to turn, not like a Spit16 or Hurri2, but decent enough to catch a 109 or 51 in a turn. Would flaps and throttle adjustment be useful, or would only throttle adjustment be needed? Flaps don't come out until 140 IAS I think, and I don't plan to get that slow.

If there's anything that helps me get away from a purely BnZ type of tactic in this plane, i'd love to know.  :salute

Use maneuvers that retain your E. Yo Yos works best.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Slashing attacks work really well. And don't be afraid to mix it up with a con. bellybutton for kills, wait till you a have a gun solution. Just stay away from sciccors. Most people only get2-5 kills as it is. Ever think about hitting the re arm pad?

I usually stay away from rolling scissor fights because its a guaranteed loss if I don't pop the con in the first turn. As for going to the re-arm pad, I end the sortie then up another plane (I'f i'm in the MA's). Its a lot quicker than waiting for 30 seconds at a dead stop then heading back up. Most of the time I have damage of some sort because I just attract bullets :lol

Basically don't turn. Even planes like the D9 or K4 will quickly dispatch you if you turn with them.

Typhoon will eat a Fw190D-9 alive in a turn fight, but the Typhoon will also be eaten alive by a Bf109K-4 in a turn fight.

I'd run the Tempy but its got a nice 50-ish perk price tag on it. If I lose those at the rate of my Tiffy, i'd be out of perks in 40 minutes. :lol

Iv'e fought 190's in the Tiffy, and those aren't too challenging. If anything they turn worse than the Tiffy and don't have the speed to run away effectively.

109's on the other hand...Those tend to be a bit of an issue in a turn fight.

Its more than him getting out turned. With the D9, he'll bleed more speed, and then the Dora will try to take it into an E fight if he's smart, which a turning typhy is I'll prepared to do.

With the K4, you run into that, AND being out turned.

Typhoon is quite fast and climbs well at low alts.  Regains its energy well, although nothing like a Spitfire.  I'm with those who think the yo-yos work well; in fact most vertical maneuvers work well.  Forget about flaps, forget about flat turns.  Remember to unload the Gs before you make any out-of-plane maneuver.

Most other pilots won't expect you to stick around, so you'll often have an initial surprise advantage.  The fantastic guns mean you usually only need one crossing shot to be successful.

Go RIGHT young man, go RIGHT!!! Turn and roll to the right.  If you even try to the left you're handi-cappin' yourself even further.  The high yo-yo is good, but take it to the RIGHT!  Also, use your engine torque to your advantage and let it pull you through a stall.  The Tiff can do some quirky things thanks to the massive torque.

If you can not out run something, the best thing you can do is roll *LEFT* first, give whatever you have following you their better roll and once they commit then roll hard right.  It may create some space and give you the time you need for a countryman to save your arse.   :D

The Tiff is purely an offensive plane, it has far more tricks to use on the offensive vs relying on speed alone for defense.  :aok

This plane has a really good rudder.  You use lots of rudder to help pitch it around if you have lost the speed advantage.

Tiffy is a fun plane if you stick with it and learn its abilities...I used to fly it exclusively but it is handicapped by a ridiculouly low ENY# given its fighter abilities and you will never build perks with it.. I have no problem dropping flaps and stall fighting it when needed. You will surprise people once you know what you can do with it and arent afraid to mix it up rather than BnZ. you have to learn to anticipate your opponents moves to try to line up deflection shots when turnfighting it because it rolls hella slow and if your late in responding to a break turn  or a barrel roll you wont get the nose on target.

If you don't want to fly using BnZ attacks, then don't pick a plane that is primarily a BnZ type of plane.
