Problem with elevator trim!
« on: February 01, 2013, 07:28:51 AM »
Hey all.

Everytime i use the "Auto trim on Level" then my elevator trim stopps working, if i first do the Auto trim on level and then disable it, then the K and I keys dont seem to function anymore, alltough when i use "Auto trim on Angle" then the K and I keys for elevator trim starts working again.

Am i missing something here?

Its designed that way.
Level trim will keep you flying level (v/S = 0fpm) although it may take sometime getting there.
Auto trim angle is a variable mode. By adjusting the elevator trim, you are actually asking it to maintain a 'new' angle.

I understand the desire to let auto trim level also resynchronise to a new level using the trim commands but its currently not enabled to do that. You can however use rudder trims to make it perform a absolutely flat turn (useful in buff formations and similar stuff).

If you`re useing an analog control to adjust trim it wont overide combat trim. When you select auto level CT comes on by default and the analog control will do nothing.

I used to use an X52 and used the ``wheels`` on the throttle to control trim,I had to map a button to toggle combat trim off in order for the wheels to work. You can now set analog controls to mimick button presses so you can now use the wheels to work like I and K etc. one nice thing if you leave it analog and toggle CT is you can preset the trim and just toggle CT on or off and it
 goes to the preset automatically.

  hope that helps!

If you have disabled combat trim in preferences, won't come on at all (even when using auto trim). However if it is checked on, it will disengage once you operate manual trim and will automatically re-engage if you use autotrim (level/speed/pitch) and then override that.

Manual trimming will not override autotrim. It re-synchronises the thresholds for pitch/speed hold (green/red) modes only, not the altitude hold (yellow) mode.

If you are level at say 8k with altitude hold engaged (yellow light on) and now want to climb to say 10k, using manual trim to pitch up will have no effect. You need to either switch to speed hold (red) or pitch hold (green) and then use manual trim up to get you to 10k. Easier imho to just disengage the autopilot by yanking up to 10k and then just re-engage it.
