LibreOffice has more of a future then OpenOffice, I think. However, you might try both and see which you like better.

LibreOffice is an offshoot of OpenOffice, that happened, (I believe), after some of the developers had problems with The company that owned the sourcecode, or something like that. I switched at that time, and so far I like LibreOffice better.
