Gun Sight- Project X1. Currently under development
« on: February 04, 2013, 01:55:15 PM »

Just wanted to share what I have been working on a lot lately. I started playing AH in 2005, and shortly thereafter began making custom gun sights for my own use.

I have taken many breaks from this game, some very lengthy, and have only gone under the name BluBerry since 2012.

In 2011 I began making gun sights for my Squad at the time and at the start of 2012 I began taking requests in game and on the BBS, mainly in Private Messages.

It was during the middle of 2012 where I had the idea of trying to make a gun sight that gave a polarized look to it.

In the first image the P51 is nearing the center of the optic, where the polarized effect takes place, making it easier to see.

In the second image the P51 is now inside of the center of the optic, and has less glare and better clarity then the surrounding enviroment

Hopefully there is some interest in what I am trying to accomplish, and I look forward to releasing something in the future.

Thanks

I'm definitely interested in this one, Blueberry, your sights are "out of sight"!

Wow. That's great, any idea on when you'll have these released? I'd like to try these out.

Woah, pretty impressive. I'm definitely looking forward to the release. I'm also curious to know how you achieved that color effect inside the sight.

I'm obviously missing something here.......but can someone explain to me more clearly what exactly is different?
I though one could always adjust the opacity of the sights in the clipboard.

This is a photo from 2012 when I was experimenting with multiple yellow layers all with different transparency levels to try to make a high def look
I have been working more on the blue one, as shown above in the original post with the P51. While the yellow is nice for take GV's, the minute you fly towards the sun you are completely blinded.

Its not about the opacity of the entire reticle. Yes you can set that level of transparency of the alpha channel in the AH clipboard. The alpha channel is not the entire image that is selected as your gun sight, it is essentially everything other then what is forced transparent. The darker the color used, the more transparent it becomes, the lighter the color, the brighter it becomes. That's the most basic way to describe it. Hence why the reticles always have black backgrounds on the image, but not in the game.
The purpose of the project is that I have been experimenting with different colors and transparencies of those colors on the image itself, to work within AH2 and present a polarized look. The colors of the reticle are not always presented the same inside of AH2 due to game components. So I have been applying color to the inside of the reticle itself, and then tweeking it. So if blue makes the sky much darker, when applied with high opacity, then I use a blend of blues in the reticle to still present the same scale of darkest to lightest in the sky. Its complicated and carries a lot of trial and error. The end result is that I'm learning and figuring out how to eliminate the gunsight that the reticle is projected on to, and then what gives the best clarity and definition.
I am constantly taking screen shots and figuring out what best enhances the look of targets with opaque color inside of the reticle.

If you cannot notice a difference in the pictures then I'm not sure how else to describe it haha. Sorry

So with this information I was able to come up with something quick. It's pretty neat, and though I'm not sure if it improves my gunnery much, at least it looks cool.

looks like you have it backwards. The plane is actually being covered, it looks more clear outside of the blue in the photo.
Its not hard to make, its only hard to get right  :aok

The difference is your photo looks like you just have a more opaque blue color covering the plane, but not making it more clear. Clarity is the point, not color :)

start with a yellow, and fly around and look at the ground, see what color the ground changes to through the look of your yellow reticle, and then work back from there to try to make it crisper and clearer. Lots of alt tabbing out of game and tweaking the reticle to show the in game enviroment a certain way
