Rubber Room for politics
« on: February 06, 2013, 02:03:26 PM »
I know the Rules and questions of implementation aside, why don't we create a room for politics. If you don't want to engage, go somewhere else. If you do, strap on your big girl panties and deal with it. Everyone gets an opinion, no one has the right to hurt feelings. And we shouldn't worry about the blowhards. Just as in real life in due time everyone will know the serious posts versus drunk Uncle Joe and we'll be fine.

I am guessing the first thought is no but why not? Hijacking threads is bad form, I agree but this wouldn't be hijacking.

Flame on our lock this thread but it should be considered. Thoughts?

PS Call it the Rubber Room...cut right to the chase.

As much as I dearly love talking politics, I would have to caution against this.  I understand and agree with the motivation for wanting to talk about things freely, but I also know human nature.  Idiots and trolls would stroll in and become involved ruin the fun for everyone.

That, and I'm sure a few of the people I've come to respect in the game differ from my political POV.  I'd prefer to not think less of them because they're stupid.   :D

I'm pretty sure that place is dead.

As for the wish, i'd love to see it - it'd take out all of the politics/religious stuff from the O'Club/General Discussion, but I don't think Skuzzy will be OK with this wish.

nothing good will come out of it.... most people don't have the mental fortitude to refrain from attacking one another over disagreements they have little control over.

considering most peoples sources for news would would they really be discussing something or just regurgitating what they have heard?
They call it "common sense", then why is it so uncommon?

no you dont understand is that there is never a discussion but rather personal attacks.  discussions imply that you want to actually exchange ides or information and that has never been the case in any thread that I have seen posted.

nothing good will come out of it other than people quitting for one reason or another.  If people really wanted to discuss and or/exchange ideas then flamewarrios.net would still be alive.

heck if somebody still think it is a good idea then somebody should create flamewarrios2.net  then if it is an actual decent discussion then bring your idea to this forum as an example otherwise it is a lose-lose situation for everybody.

you want an example of why not look at this thread.  notice how it went from discussion to personal attacks.

and you think we can have a civilized discussion about gun control/lack of  :rofl :rofl

I'm all for it. But I or we don't have anything to lose by speaking our mind on various hot topics of the day. HTC has to worry about losing customers when someone is offended by remarks on these forums. I'd love to debate and hear opinions about gun control, gay marriage, Korea, Iran, Obama...etc. There's a lot of smart people in here with interesting ideas and perspectives, but the bottom line is....and you know it's true, someone will get pissed off and complain until HTC has to do something about it. Why would they want the hassle of that?

Precisely what Uptown said.

I would +1 the wish, however HTC would get the backlash for it.  So I want it, but no.  It isn't worth it in the long run.

Respectively,

So I take it you have all of my browser history and know exactly which sites iv'e been to in the past 4 months? Or are you going off of assumptions and think that iv'e never been there?

Iv'e just stopped hearing anything about it and I don't go there much. Going off of what iv'e gathered, I figured that place died to all but those who still inhabit it.

I know you've never visited or joined.  It's a private forum that doesn't allow tween squeakers and you're not a member.
