State of the game thread!!!!!
« on: February 12, 2013, 10:29:40 PM »
this thread is to lay out how you think the game is working out by country  feel free to voice your opinion.. according to the rules,, no real politics   just real observations about how the game is going Today!   I'll start

"The Bishops have control of the War"
They can organize and move the map at will, they control the air on any front they chose to do so!
they do not have control of the Ground War without Air support,,   but they have enough Air Support to make up  for that fact
Numbers are the Key.. in a close battle,,IE close in numbers of fighters,, they  do not control everything, BUT
they do have purpose, they have assigned duties and boots on the ground to carry out those objectives!
I.E. remove enemy ord, enemy GVs thru hanger destruction, and enemy guns to defend friendly bases

The Knights have an even keel,, they put up an even fight, thru Good GV drivers and very skilled pilots,
they lack in quick response fighters the one thing the Bishops have a very large strength in,
they also lack in recruitment for missions tho not as badly as the Rooks!!!
to defend  they need to be able to bail the fight they are in and quickly respond to immediate threats from the Bishops,, self sacrifice is not a strong point in their game!

The Rooks have some of the best GV drivers in the game and some of the best pilots,,
yet they lack the coordination to repel the Bishops,,, more of a lone wolf theory surrounds them and their group ,
not surprisingly so tho, since there is no real reward for saving the map,, only winning the war,,,
if the perk points were to reflect the  hardship a team faced to defend a map,, then you would have more defenders

this is just a rough draft of ideas,,, please try to add thought full response  for the betterment of the game,, that's why I posted this thread

Flying since tour 71.

The Bishops suck at fighting
The Knights suck at fighting
The Rooks suck at fighting

... but most of them have been drinking, so they can be forgiven.

Rooks just want to have fun and hate the idea of hordeing mindlessly and putting 20 bomber fleets to close a field. Much more fun to poke the bees nest and play with the buzz.

The Bishops suck at fighting
The Knights suck at fighting
The Rooks suck at fighting

I find it easier to go with, "All red suck. All green suck slightly more."  :aok

No, the rooks just mindlessly up 20 bombers to not even make it to the targets because whatever country sees them coming an hour before they even get close and have a huge cap going by the time they get there.

The rooks... I'm not sure how to describe them. When I started in this game so many moons ago, the rooks were the leaders of missions. I remember the first week I was a rook after switching countries from knits, I took part in massive missions the every night. We had so many gvs and planes at a single field one night, icon range was down to under 1k.

Slowly the missions stopped being posted and it morphed into what it is today. Early in 2012 or late 2011, I had a nice stretch of time (couple of months) were I was running country missions pretty consistently and was getting good numbers in them, 15-20 people, and we were rolling maps like crazy. However, I slowed my game play down for a few months and when i came back, it was like nobody knew of the missions I previously had run and nobody was joining.

Now the rooks, mainly a single squad on the rooks side, run the most pointless of missions IMO. I know the one night they took 20 people or so in b17s and had additional people as escorts as well. They of course flew 10 sectors to climb out and the entire mission was probably 2 hrs long. They went to the strats and HQ, but didn't even manage to get the HQ down or strats hit hard. The country as a whole was getting their azzes handed to them at the time, even though we outnumbered both countries individually.

I said to people on vox, I bet I can take up a single set of b29s and land more than that entire mission. I launched after they had, dropped all of my bombs within 4 sectors of my original base, on bases that were being attacked for captures and indeed landed more than their entire mission; 45,000 vs the mission's 25,000.

This is just one of the countless missions that have been run recently. More often then not, the missions the rooks post anymore are not for capture and if they are, they can't capture a base with the 30+ people they have on the base because they can't follow simple directions.

Another example from last year... The same squad again sent probably 10-20 sets of bombers to this one large base, with fighters and probably 5 goons. I was in a goon and launched before the main mission and I had set up my goon on the opposite side of the base by flying noe through three bases' radar rings without flashing any of the bases. I was set up outside of town, probably 2min out flying time, if that. I sat there for 15 mins. until the entire horde got there and shut the base down and finished the town. All of the other goons got killed in the process, but I was still there and completely undetected. The enemy was not even flying on this side of the base anymore because so much of our forces had died and was now coming back over the water, so the enemy was heading towards our base to meet our forces.

I called out saying I was coming in to town with no cons insight and for everyone to stop flying near the town. What does some members of this squad do? They bring their buffs over the town, low and dragging in multiple cons with them as I was landing with the troops at town. I get spotted right away and was killed. Had they listened the multiple times I asked and then told them to turn away, we would have got the base right out from underneath their noses.

Rooks will be Rooks (and playing to have fun),
Bish will be Bish (and swarm),
Knits will be Knits (and whine about how so-n-so got their panties in a bunch).

Uh I've been rook since tour 1 so no need to tell me how rooks morphed in 2 year period lol.

This thread is full of opinions.  I guess I can have one too, yes?   :)

The "winning the war" has become far too much of a pride thing for some, it is as if they can put their "winz" on their resume' when they're looking for a job (or applying for their EBT card, welfare payment, etc)  With all the AH has to offer I'm dumbfounded that the focal point for so many has become to win a field and ultimately win the map **by any means necessary** which  the 30v1 horde "missions" that allow for an almost absolute lack of chance to defend.  Take a look sometime at the cross section of planes used by a lot of these players and you'll see their experience in AH involves the P51D, La7, F4U, and/or George, etc, about %80 of their gaming experience, and that is sad. Sure, it is there $15 and they may do as they wish, but obviously my perspective on AH is a lot different than the gamers/horde'rs.  I could care less about winning map or field, I do not need the ego boost and I certainly am not shallow enough to think of the game as being for that cause and that cause only. There are so many things players can do AH and yet it comes down "winningz the fieldz/mapz" for so many players.  THAT is the sad thing.  To each his own, I guess.  Was it Napoleon who said that soldiers will fight long and hard for a little piece of ribbon?  I guess the opposite goes to some who think that being a part of a "winz" regardless if they fired a shot or dropped a bomb yet they get the win, sort of like being a bench warmer on a winning Super Bowl team.  Must be a feel good/everyone get s trophy thing?

As far as the squeakops, Knights, and Rooks go and which county is where on the totem pole... the pendulum swings too and fro, it always has and always will.   :aok

But that's nothing new. Players have always congegated on (in? at?) a few 'most efficient' planes. The perk plane system was introduced in tours 14 to 16 for a good reason.  :old:

Form what I can tell, Bishops hate to lose and would rather  horde around and not kill anything and win then learn any useful skills and maybe get beat. Safety in numbers. Knights used to run great missions but alas all mission planners are dead. Rooks, hmmm I are the short bus I heard somewhere. :bhead

This whole thread is useless unless the discussion about the individual squad takes place. For example, categorizing each squadron into a grouping ; 'War Winners', 'Furballers, combination of the two and noting the fact if they change countries often or not. From there, you can much more easily grade each country and make individual exceptions for the varying circumstances.

Kinda hard to say because there are guys and squads that jump countries all the time and change the countries chemistry.
