In the second shot it looks like the tail gun might have only on barrel.  That could indicate that the player can choose dual .50s or quad .303s.  If both are an option I doubt the .50s will be available in the EWA and perhaps not the MWA.  I am not sure when the .50 turrets first showed up on Lancasters.

You do realize they went to the 50 Cals for a reason right?  Be careful what you wish for  :)

The dual .50's came about late in the game, ultimately LW.  The Lancaster was available early in 1942 and ultimately stayed the same with exception to the guns and minor engine tweaks.  I'm under the impression that only a minority of Lancasters were fitted with the dual .50's in the tail.  I just read in one of my books that the Lanc Mk III was ordered with the quad .30's, then part of the way through production the dual .50's were installed, but the decision was made to go back to the quad .30's due to logistics: there were already more than enough quad 30's turrets and mounts made and the dual .50 turrets and mounts had to catch up in production.... at least that is my interpretation of the information in a nutshell.  Plus, I'd have to think that as the war went on there were less and less German fighters to contend with.

Less than 200 of the 7300 built had the dual .50's in the rear turret???  My source ("The Encyclopedia of WWII Aircraft", Editor: Paul Eden), is a bit vague on those numbers too.

If you search for photos of the turrets on the Lancaster, you'll see the quad .30's are set with the two top guns wider than the bottom 2 guns.  In the picture that shows the rear turret well enough, you can see the left guns on the turret plain as day and the right two are blended together because of the position of the camera.

EDIT:  As much as it pains to say it, head to wiki and there are some good photos of the rear turret. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Lancaster

With good gunnery skills, the 4 .303's will translate to 32mm roughly in 4 8 mm size bullets.  They will be lethal with proper handling.

I think what they translate to, in AH terms, is a much higher rate of pilot wounds on goobers crawling up your 6 all slow like.

Yes, I saw that, but I don't think the camera is high enough in the second shot to cause the two barrels t merge visually.  I also don't think that the barrel positions are divergent enough to let one project that far without the other also being visible.

We shall see, but I wouldn't be shocked to see both options.  HTC has shown a willingness to do rare gun packages such as the three cannon La-7 and the NS-37 armed Il-2.

Looks really beautiful, fantastic work, can't wait to shoot them down in droves when it releases.  I was wondering why so many were in the skies of the LWA this morning.   :devil

The 303s will be I think more lethal in concentration, but will be less effective and lethal against slashing attacks that rarely offer a solid shot to the defender.  I think by far the bigger impact with this update to its survivability will be the updated damage model.

Very true.  That is exactly what I've been vouching for as well.  Having both options for scenarios and the MA's would be nice.  I wish HTC would have the option of the B24 D or J (no front turret vs front turret).
