No places to live. Get the job first and you may be able to stay in a "man camp". I live in Billings and people commute from here. Fast food places as far as Sidney have closed due to not have workers willing to work for $12 an hour. If you have a CDL it is almost a shure thing to make $30 an hour in the oil fields. Housing is the big problem there.

I lived in Oklahoma during the 1980's oilfield boom.

Those dudes made a lot of money, but it's dangerous, back breaking work out in the weather in North Dakota?

I was working in a hospital at the time and saw a few of them brought in dead from accidents, but hell, I guess you can killed doing just about anything.

You will get the hell gouged out of you for housing, and there will be times you are stuck working round the clock when you should be sleeping.

Depends on how desperate you are, I suppose.

I offered my personal reference to get you a job that would net you $20k in 4months with zero expenses. That's really not very long, even if you laughed off going to AK. I leave for 7months of commercial salmon fishing early Wed. morning. If you change your mind you can still send me a pm here on the forums, but I may not get it for a while. Good luck.

I've been there brother, and it's fueled me to take and create opportunities I never thought of before. Within 5 years I'll not only have what I lost, but have a much stronger foundation to work from. Good luck with your business!
it has nothing to do with the lifestyle. id try it if i could. 2 reasons i say no. i am far from healthy enough to stick with a job like that and i have no way of getting anywhere outside of massachusetts (just money itself stops me). if i left now i'd lose my car within the month due to insurance payments and car payments. my current job covers both and nothing more really. I need a chance with a job in the area so as to be able to get on my feet. I'm looking into other ideas people have messaged me and posted here. Some are possible and actually probable. others just can't happen currently

if the car is paid down some, you could sell it---pay it off...then buy something with the left over money....

and always always shop around for insurance...  they all vary greatly on pricing for the same coverage...  doing that on your current vehicle could save you 50 or more a month

Truck driving school at your local community college. I made 32,000 my first year and that was 15 years ago. But it's not for everyone.

$600 - $700 dollars a week? Is that pre-tax or post-tax? Post-tax that's like $20/hr. I'd say start panhandling at the busiest intersection. If you think you are going to make that kind of money without some kind of investment (money, time, energy. And I'm talking about school/trade school or start-up fees) then you are delusional. Especially in the time frame you are talking.  Good Luck with that!
