New PC having lots of trouble configuring controls
« on: February 24, 2013, 10:20:10 AM »
My old computer after 6 years of faithful service finally gave up.  I had to buy a new one.  Great PC ASUS with i7 3770 cpu 16 megs memory
and an NVidia GT630 Vid card with 2 meg vid ram.  Now....I got no instructions with the PC but it was a straight forward setup. I was expecting
at least a small booklet on Win8, but I got nothing.  Took me two hours to find out how to shut the PC down through windows.

In control panel my devices are listed, CH USB Combat stick, USB Throttle, and USB Pedals all Ch.  When I go to calibrate them in windows
I get no response.  When I click on them separately in control panel it says device is working.  Consequently when I go into AH offline
I can't calibrate them either.  No action at all when I move a controller.  Any thoughts?

First, I wouldn't admit it took that long to figure out. . . <cough>

Second, I think you need to install CH Control Manager first and get the devices recognized properly. Everything should work then. I will admit I have never touched Windows 8, so beyond that. . . you may have to wait on an early adopter like Ripley to show up.

Thanks Chalenge.  I'm familiar with XP...best windows ops ever but had to get this PC in a hurry.

Getting familiar with it though.  Windows already has CH drivers USB included.  Should not be this big of a task.

Windows8 I know only what I am discovering.  Thanks Bug.  I think I'll unplug them then add them again one at a time.

Make sure you don't plug the controls into the blue usb ports.

Best to get a powered USB port for your CH sticks!

Bug runs Win8 with CH stuff and has no trouble.

I'd uninstall the CH stuff and un plug all the controllers. I get a USB powered hub and install that...being sure NOT to plug it into a "blue" out-lined USB port. Then plug each of the controllers in one at a time and let them load in windows. Once they are all done goto game controllers to calibrate each of them. Load the game and calibrate each in the game, and then use the game mapping system to map all of your buttons.

ElFugitivo thanks.....they are all plugged into a powered USB Hub....and are recognized.  Thank all of you for the help also.

There is something small that I am missing....something running that prohibits me from setting up my Ch stuff.

I started the whole system again from the beginning, re-set windows etc. After building at least 20 PCs on my own, installing operating systems and drivers

this has really got me scratching my head.  I tried the Ch website.  They have control manager and Ch drivers for Win7 not Win8.

Besides windows tells me the devices are working properly and I do not need drviers...ya.....right.

So you see them in the "device and printers" window right? Then if you right click on the game controller icon the top option should be "game controller settings". After clicking on that the next window should have the list of controllers with a status column. Do they all say "OK"? If so, click on one of the controller to highlight and then click on the "properties" button to open the "settings and test" window to check the controller. Can you get to this screen? Where does it fail?

Fugi....found the problem.  It was with windows itself.  I did everything I've done in the past and what you suggested.  One of the selections was "troubleshoot."

When I selected that windows itself corrected a problem that it found while troubleshooting.  I had to do that for all three devices.

they are now working properly.  Win8 didn't explain what problem it found...but it corrected them <shrugz>

That is because Windows was embarrassed again and didn't want to admit "it" screwed up.  :D

I'm glad you got it working!

It probably rolled back the win7 driver you installed to the native one ;)
