Replace icon system with Country Insignia system.
« on: February 25, 2013, 05:51:52 AM »
After thinking over this a little myself and coming across tilt's reply to the squad icon thread.

- I wish that the icon system in the MA would be replaced by an insignia system on the wings of planes. So that instead of distances and colours, a large country insignia (Knights, Bish, Rook) would appear on the tops and bottoms of wings (not tail or fuselage).

Just turn your icons off and leave the icons as they are for the rest of us old timer who have trouble seeing.

The insignia system would be a bit too labor intensive in more than one way, I do believe.  Though, I like the concept.

I wish HTC would go to a more generic set of icons.  I say keep the 6000 yards icon range, but instead of having it say "P51", have it say "1ENG".  If it is a Mossi, Boston, 410, etc, then have the icon say "2ENG".  B17's, B24's, Ju88's, etc, all would say "4ENG".  Once the enemy contact is within say 3000 or 4000 yards THEN have it switch to what model of aircraft it is.

I think this would add a hint more of realism, yet not sacrifice game play or give anyone an advantage or cause a disadvantage to anyone else.

["B"] - bomber - all planes found in the bomber list toting bombs.
["A"] - attacker - in attack mode. Could give away an easy kills doing bombtruck duty.
["F"] - fighter - No bombs or rockets on board. A20??

We know some players are hesitant to take on specific types of aircraft becasue of preconceptions over outcomes based on performance. This may get you the unintended consiquence of more players than you expect milling about waiting for visual cues rather than heading for the enemy. Or players showing up with the least amount of ord to suckker in the timid becasue of the "A".

I like this idea!  I've noticed how the id firms up as you get closer and expanding this makes sense!  I'd doubt if I could ID a spit at six clicks!
