Just wondering if this is the case then why does auto-takeoff have flaps down?

No extra lift yet, but it allows you to take off at lower speeds...

why would you want to take off at lower speeds?

I understand why buffs and heavies need the flaps to help them get off the ground but slow them down on take off?

Dunno..maybe there's some benefit..I'm no real life pilot!..just wondering.

My experience with autotake off stops here, as I had to learn to Take off in AH manualy before this feature was implemented

It's already been acknoleged by HTC that the flaps only provide a fracton of the lift they should (i heard 30% and yet again 25%). The fix is reported to be in the upcoming release.
