Joystick settings... poof
« on: March 05, 2013, 11:01:38 AM »
For the second (or maybe third) time I've logged on to find my joystick mapping in game completely erased.   :furious

Given the amount of time I've spent playing this game, it's actually not that common, but the fact that it's happened at least twice is making me  :headscratch:

Does this happen to anyone else?

Doh... sorry.

It's a Logitech G940 and no, I have no powered USB hub.  The G940 pedals and throttle plug in to the stick, and the stick plugs to the computer.  I disconnect the stick from the computer when I'm done playing.  Everything else stays plugged like it was.

It never loses mapping during play, only randomly when I fire the game up.  I always know it's screwed because I calibrate every time I play.

Are you plugging it back into the same port?
Isn't the G940 a ffb stick? A powered hub might help, and when I say a powered hub I mean one that has a separate power supply that plugs into the outlet. Not one that gets its' power from the USB buss.

If you have to calibrate the stick, it is because the stick has been given a new Windows ID and Windows needs to have it calibrated again.  This, in turn, causes the game to lose its ID for the stick as it has changed.

A powered USB hub would probably solve the problem.  If the USB bus is power cycling, due to load, it will eventually cause the USB bus to completely fail.

I am using the same hub when plugging/unplugging.  It is a FFB stick.

The recalibration habit was just a response to having to do it a couple of times in quick succession when I first got the stick.  I also talked to other players who said they have to recalibrate almost every time they log in.  Given that the G940 is buggy (to put it mildly), I just chalked this up to one of it's lesser demons and went on with my business.

I will try the powered hub.  I was going to get one to use with my upcoming build, anyway.  I just gotta keep the wife away from the money first.    :lol

Thanks for the help guys.
