« on: April 07, 2013, 05:00:14 PM »
I was curious which planes are left to be updated from their origional ah1 models. I came up with 18 planes (14 if you ignore variants... 13 if you consider tempest a variant)

B26
me163
tempest
f4f
fm2
a20
boston
ar234
ki61
yak9u
yak9t
bf110c
bf110g
b5n2
d3a1
ki67
sbd5
tbm3

and of those many have had a similar aircraft added in their place in leu of being updated...

b26... b25

ki67... g4m

f4f...   brew

110... 410

many of those not updated are perk/gadget/scenario low use aircraft as well.

You left off the Ju88A-4.  Otherwise, yes.

I don't think those other aircraft were added in lieu of updating the older aircraft though.  For example, beyond being Japanese bombers, the Ki-67 and G4M1 have very little cross over.  I would guess that the Ki-67 is the reason the G4M1 was added as the Ki-67 was completely dominant when ranged against things like F4Fs, P-40s and Hurricanes when used as a substitute simply because it was a Japanese bomber.

The G4M1 is, likewise, a poor substitute for the Ki-67 in later settings.

I think they will all be updated in turn.  I would guess the Yaks, Bf110s and A-20G/Boston would be likely due to knocking two airframes off with either upgrade and the B-26 due to how aged it is and how popular it is in terms of game usage.

The B-25s and Me410 were both the result of a vote, so not planned by HTC.

what got me thinking about it is another thread where the a36/p51a with its 4 20mm and lower performance was being lusted after.

made me think about how I have been wishing for a b25j since the b25 was added and how long before any of the ah2 models would be getting variants added when they get updated.

Yup.  The only variant I can think of that was added significantly after the AH2 model was introduced is the P-47M, but its 3D model is identical to the P-47D-40 and Pyro stated at the time that that was a factor in the P-47M being added.

How easily could a B-25J be created by sticking the nose of the B-25C onto the B-25H?  Are there other graphical changes needed or would that cover it?

i still have the photoshop files for the b25c and b25H so skinning it would be a nonissue. the only change to the b25H 3d model would be grafting the nose of the b25C onto it.

the performance is identical to b25H.

the biggest draw of a b25J to me is it is usable in the late war arena as it can defend itself a bit better than the b25c and can level bomb in formation unlike the b25H...

whats more you could even put mods for the nose of the b25J to give it 12 50 cal nose etc just like the b25c strafer.

-25J would be cool. Aren't the medium bombers long overdue for a update ?

I'd say there is reasonable hope for a basic B-25J then, that merely needs the nose of the B-25C grafted to the B-25H.  If the twelve .50 loadout would require additional assets I would guess it is far less likely to be added.

The B-26, Ju88 and Ki-67, yes.  The B-25s and G4M1, no, as they are already at AH2 standards.

nobut a20/boston and also the fm2/f4f were among the last ah1 models made if i remember right. they are among the best looking most detailed of the origional batch too which might explain their remaining in their current form while more polygonal planes were updated.
