Vox disco issue
« on: March 18, 2013, 06:31:31 PM »
I've been getting vox disco issues for about 10 days now.   I push a vox button and everything freezes up.   Sometimes I can give my system the 3 finger salute and kill the game and restart.  Other times I can't get anything to work and need a power cycle....any suggestions?

Is there any reason why you need the HDMI (ATI) sound driver installed?  That driver is very problematic.

Truthfully, I don't know.   This computer is primarily used for this game only.   I'm not sure how the driver got installed.   I know how to disable drivers.   Could you tell me which driver to disable under manage?

That driver comes with the AMD/ATI video card driver.  If you do not chose a "custom" install, it will install it automatically.  I would remove the AMD/ATI drivers, then re-install, making sure to select a "custom" installation and not install the HDMI sound driver.

Thanks.   I'll give that a try.

I removed the driver.   Seems like the disco happens more now.   I dug this out of the error logs:

Faulting application name: aceshigh.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x51193c4b
Faulting module name: WINMM.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17514, time stamp: 0x4ce7ba42
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0000425e
Faulting process id: 0x390
Faulting application start time: 0x01ce24fbddf440c4
Faulting application path: C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High\aceshigh.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\WINMM.dll
Report Id: 42c51d15-90ef-11e2-94bf-bc5ff478bcb6

I think the problem started when I installed
FMOD BETA TEST PATCH2

But I get disco'd when I run the orig or the beta

The crashing is happening within the WINMM.dll driver.  This is the Windows Multimedia driver.  This is a strong indicator there is something wrong within the audio system of your computer.  Usually it is a driver issue.

However, it can also be a USB bus issue, as you are using the USB bus for the sound system.  If the USB bus is resetting due to low power conditions (or any other reason), it could cause this.

Try using another USB port.  NOTE:  There usually is only two USB hubs in most computers, even though there may be a huge number of ports, they are sharing those internal USB hubs.  Figuring out which ports are on different hubs is trial and error, at best.

Makes sense.   Maybe my controls, which are usb powered, and my headset which is usb powered are drawing from the same source.   I'll try juggling things around a bit.

Moving the headphones to the box's front usb ports seemed to work last night.  Thank you
