TrackiR 5 profile wanted for AH2
« on: April 03, 2013, 07:19:16 PM »
I've decided to get it off the shelf, buckle down, and finally start using this thing.  I've got new 144hz Asus 3d monitors going, and after watching some uTube videos of guys flying both Aces and some of the DCS sims, I've decided to dust mine off again, for one last kick at  the cat.

I've tried using the search to find Fugitive's profile, but no luck. I've tried messing around with the curves and such, but it's all guess work for me, with no satisfactory results in trying to get the pitch curve to move without my head pointing near my roof.  I'm sure some of the guys here have decent ones that work.  Help!

I seem to remember you have noscript.  you need to allow it for it to show the file.  I just d/l the file and it is the one I have.  when you click on it, it gives you 3 options, download, view or something other choose download.

Don't forget about the "Speed' and "Smooth slider.  I have my "Speed setting on .4 but with aggressive curves.  Also try lowering your FOV, I have mine set on 93 down from the default 106.  Lowering the FOV has big advantages with the trackir.

If you are having problems getting use to the trackir, uncheck the "Roll" and the X,Y and Z.  Once you feel comfortable with that then add back X and Y.  When you get use to that add back the Z.  The "Roll" is not for everybody.  it makes me dizzy.  I am guessing about half the users leave it off or have a low profile cure for roll.  I have mine off.

Go to offline practice for a couple of flights and all of a sudden your mind adapts to oddity of what you are doing.

We were talking about this at practice last night.  It seems most in the squad that use TIR started off with a non-aggressive profile.  Then moved to a much more aggressive profile as experience was gained.  This was exactly my experience as well, the profile I use now would be completely unusable for me starting out.

I've loaded up all the ones I've collected HERE. They have been renamed so they show up in the profiles under the name of who ever made it. Good luck!

Gman, here is my most current TIR5 profile and setup instructions. I am always tweaking it a bit so in a month from now it will most likely be different.

I do not use the most current driver. I use the TrackIR_5.0.beta.03 driver. This is the last driver from Natural Point that will let you look past 180 degrees.

This driver will let you look past the tail and, when looking up you will be able to see the top of your vertical stab. to use as a reference point.

The only problem I have is in the F4's. When I look up all I see is that black patch on the canopy. Some people have a work around to see past it. I only use .

yaw, pitch, X, and Z axis. Maybe if you added the roll element you could see past the black canopy patch. I have no issues with F4U-1.

Here is the link to my updated profile.       http://www.mediafire.com/?vur9e782fnr18bu

Here is the link to the 5.0bete.03 driver.   http://media.naturalpoint.com/software/TrackIR_5.0.beta.03.exe

Don't give up on TIR. Once you get it the way you like it, you will never use the hat switch for views again.  Good Luck..

Finally got one of these this week and have had fun messing with it.

I tried the beta driver you linked to but it wouldn't find the camera. I searched the NP forums which advised uninstalling and removing a folder then re-installing which I did but had the same results. I installed the newest drivers and off it went. <shrug> I'm running Win7-64 so maybe that had something to do with it. This seems to work.

Anyway, thanks for all that posted profiles. I've stuck em all in there and will settle on one and prolly tweak that some to suit me. Messing around with it. I found I had to set buttons for center, pause and precision which I mapped to the hat switch I'll not be needing for views anymore. I kept the 6 key mapped as I found I can still use that one pretty effectively still with TrackIR. I have to break myself of a couple of habits. One is using the hat switches to look around. Duh. I did that all night last night :bhead. Another is I tend to sit up in my seat and lean in closer to my monitor when I'm in a fight but that's just not gonna work with the head tracker. Really kinda kills the FOV when ya do that and ruins your center point which puts the gunsight all over the place. No reason for it as I have a pretty big monitor. Old habits die hard I guess.

One thing. I find I'm having to recenter quite a bit even tho I don't seem to be changing my head position much as far as I can tell. Is this normal? No biggie--I have a button for that now.

Drano, have you tried changing the FOV in the video setting?  The P38 seems to have a better forward view with a lower FOV.  I have mine set on 92.  The TrackIr allows you take advantage of the FOV setting.

You might try unchecking the Z axis for awhile till you get settled in on the Trackir.

It doesn't help when you lean in too close to the TIR camera. Doing that is what's hosing my FOV. I have to break myself of the habit of sitting up and getting closer to the screen (where the TIR camera is) when I'm fighting that's all. An about 20 year habit will die hard and until it does I'll die hard. Hell it just happened on my last hop tonight LOL. I'll get past it. It's not a setting it's me.

If you "center up" while you are leaning forward you will get the FOV you are losing.

Well yeah but only two days in things haven't become habit yet. I figure if I could just keep my shoulders pinned to the seat where they oughta be it wouldn't be a problem.

Have mapped buttons for dat tho.
