Why would an aircraft tasked in a strictly defensive role carry rockets?

Heh, because if yer aim is good they work well against buffs. And, with teh limited ammo on the 16's we need all the help we can get. :lol

Yeah AK's figured out they were enabled when one of our pilots took them in frame 1. But it did hurt the maneveurability, so probably best you didn't.

The Soviet RS-82 rocket was introduced in 1937, so I left it in the setup. The Soviets made several attempts using it air to air. The only success seems to have been in the Sino Japanese War in 1937. Two Russian pilots claimed to have downed Japanese aircraft with RS-82s, but there is some debate over the claims.

Our squadron tried it with the I-16s we upped in the last two frames. Alas, we went 0 for 20. Wasted passes that most likely resulted in more 88s going unscathed (what with the speed differential).  :D

P.S. We so looked forward to seeing the 111s. Unfortunately the fortunes of war weren't in the cards. (How's that for a mixed metaphor?)  :headscratch:
