Going South For The Summer.
« on: April 20, 2013, 10:30:50 AM »
This year on June 7th, right after school ends, i'm going to be going down to Oklahoma for the summer and staying with my grandparents. I'm gonna be near the border of Arkansas next to Fort Smith outside a little town called Arkoma. I was wondering if any of you that live near there know of any good places to visit/see, and maybe a few restaurants that I could go to for some decent food.

Not too far away near Harrison there is a museum / castle being constructed using the old style medieval techniques. Kind of a living history thing. That might be something to look at on a weekend. As far as dining is concerned there isn't much in the area other than standard country cooking. You are also not that far away from Branson and that might not be a bad visit. Try to go during the week though as weekend traffic and crowds are pretty bad.

Didn't you learn anything from nature.....?  Go south in the winter knuckle head.
They call it "common sense", then why is it so uncommon?

Erm...I cant really do that, I have to deal with school in the winter.

I was thinking about doing that, I have a friend down there that found some good stuff once, but nothing spectacular. Still worth a shot.

I would check the diamond web site out and see when they turn the ground over and try to hit it then or right after . That's the only place in the world you can find the yellow diamond .
From there site look's like there finding some nice one all ready this year .

If you are old enough, one of the best Native casinos is "Choctaw" is less than 5 minutes from there.

If not...study up on Native culture and history and be respectful.  You will very much appreciate the effort.

I'm part injun, so I know my culture. My mom is Cherokee and my dad was the white man.

Still not legal for the casino's though.

Then--even MORE reason to learn the old ways from the elders and find out the secrets of this planet.   Listen, learn, be respectful.

It will be something you will never forget and pass to your children someday.

My Mom and Stepdad live at Flint Ridge, there's a really beautiful state park with a waterfall right near the AR border.  They filmed an old movie there years back, it's called Natural Falls State Park.  Well worth checking out, especially before the really nasty summertime drought sets in here.  http://www.travelok.com/listings/view.profile/id.5293

Restaurants? <Spits tobacco> Boy 'round these parts we hunt and cook our own food. If yore lucky you can catch an armadillo - we cook and eat 'em right out of the shell; saves on plates!

If you play paintball, you'll be down just in time for the Oklahoma D-Day 2013 event in Wyandotte, OK during the week of June 10th - 15th. Would be about a 2.5 hour drive for you.

Other than that, good luck getting acclimated to the southern heat, sun and humidity.
