Remember when it was cool to fly the Pony?
« on: April 24, 2013, 03:23:21 PM »
I was reviewing some of old squad content from the 412th and found some screenshots from 2006.   Anyone remember when it was cool to fly "good american steel" and work as a team, and be praised for doing so?

Enjoy some AH history! :salute

Being the tool of choice for horde monkeys and other lazy people, I've grown a dislike for it simply because it is "too easy".  About the only time I take it is when I'm on a long range escort mission.

A beautiful and formidable machine in real life, but as cool as Justin Beeber in-game.  :neener:

I have no problem with PonyDs. 1 v 1 I'm happy to tangle co-alt or worse. 2 v 1 I prefer alt advantage. Flying mostly the fw-190A5 they don't worry me, and rarely have to worry about them running away. For some reason PonyD pilots think they should be able to kill all A5s so they stick around to learn the ugly truth.

What gets boring are these Spit conventions but I'll save that for another thread.

It was as cool, or not cool, back then as it is now. I joined in 2005, and in 2005/2006 there was almost as much complaints about "runstangs" and "lame pony dweebs" as today. The sole reason why it was only 'almost': The then recent introduction of the "overmodeled" Spit 16, which was the latest craze at that time, both in numbers airborne as well as whines on the BBS.

Back then I was told all the time that flying the La-7, N1k, Pony, 190D or any Spit was lame and a sign of having no balls.
From this collection I chose the La-7 as my very first main ride  :devil

The P-51 is a good plane.  And there is nothing inherently wrong with the people who fly it.

It is maligned by those who think "if you don't play the way I think you should, you are doing it wrong."

I don't recall much, if any of the negativity that may have went on around 2005/2006... of course I wasn't active much in the forums so I can not speak on that front; however, have a group of 4 51s land in the LWMA today and you get something much different than represented in the screenshot above.  :salute

Why do you need to be praised? I'm just asking mind you, but your post seems to be suggest praise or lack of is your biggest concern.

Not flaming you just trying to understand exactly what your concern is. If you're wanting praise from Channel 200.. Good luck. Channel 200 is like standing in front of a gorilla cage. The gorilla has
a banana in one hand and a pile of feces in the other. You can do all kind of tricks to impress the gorilla. Nine times out of ten it is not going
to be the banana he throws at you.  ;)

I do not, nor do I imagine that anyone else requires praise at all for landing kills.

I've been flying Aces High since 2001.  I am humbly pointing out that the community 'back in the day' used to support one another for doing well and working as a team, rather than non-stop griping behind anonymous handles that we see today on the forums and on 200.   But alas, that is the nature of the internet beast.

What a sad, pathetic post you just linked Pand.. Shame on them for wanting to do that silly dogfighting stuff instead of suicide bombing hangars or picking from 25k with half a dozen people to clear their six if god forbid they aren't able to run away quickly enough.

Perfect example:  http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,347814.0.html

That post seems to be a response to this one, I guess that gorilla didn't have a banana.  :D
I started flying AH in 2001 as well. I really can't remember when people weren't complaining about one airplane or another.
Runstang, Spitdweeb, Luftwhiner.. Those terms go way back. I remember seeing Spitdweeb and or Spitf*g way
back in 1992 when I was in AW. In in 1997 I started flying Warbirds, I swear I saw the term Runstang there before coming here.
There has been a lot of turnover through the years. There are a lot of old guys that have left and newer guys have filled the
ranks. With it comes new ideas and attitudes on what the current crowd views as achievement. Who knows for sure. If you're
having fun and if the guys that fly for you and follow you are having fun.. There is your real success and praise.  :salute
