Sorry, but I don't want to "know what the other side is doing". If they are preparing a NOE or sending a CV somewhere is indeed their business, no mine.

I want to know the situation of the overall war, and particularly how close it is to getting won. And actually I didn't even wish #1 for myself, as doing the calculations is quick for me. But most players don't have the field start ownerships memorized, and I don't think they should be required to do so.

Or is there anything actual detrimental to it I didn't see yet?

The map shows how many bases each side owns.. You have a problem with the status window counting them and displaying a total?

I miss the days of helping run epic comebacks when my side was down to two fields left in warbirds.

One other benefit is that this concentrates the action.

Part of the "MYSTERY" of the game, not knowing whats going on, been working for the 12 years I have been here. As far as "most players" maybe they need to "learn the game" not just play it

Could give most players a better clue how 'the war' is going and particularly if one side is about to win it. Currently you would have to know the initial base distribution, count captured fields and compare that number to the total number of fields to do the same if it's not your own country.
