Step in the Right Direction

You know what AH has that AW didnt?  A scores page. How many AW players ever knew what their score was, or even cared?  We flew to have fun and get our side to win.  If ya got shot down 50 times in a night, it didnt matter and we all had fun.  I regularly see score specific behavior from my own countrymen.  Refusal to engage to help a defensive countryman because it might be a tough fite.  Kill stealing, gang bangs, refusal to leave your ack even when odds are  fair and on and on.  That score specific attitude brought on by having that stupid scores page has made people on the same side behave like competitors instead of team mates.  Lose that stupid thing and you'll see the general attitude in the ma decidedly improve.  You wanna keep score, fine, then you should only be able to view your own scores and not anyone elses..if they wanna share them with rest of us, then fine.

Thats soo true, it happened in Warbirds and it happens here but the scores are worthwhile and it does draw more customers in that it scares away. Gangbanging etc can't all be attributed to scores, its just natural pack instinct. One thing I know we would see more of if scores were not here..HO's as long as some people care a little about score then HO's won't be as common. I'm not really bothered by my overall score but I do take an interest in hit percentages etc just to see if my aim has improved over the years

I thought they did keep score in AW too??

I do agree somewhat too on this.  I dont fly online a whole lot (10-20 hours a month maybe).  I will never see any high scores.  Most of the Last tours high scorers had 100+ hours in the tour!!!! some were at 200+ hours in that tour!!!!!  holy cow!!

I like to see the percentage stuff though.  It helps me see if I am getting better or slacking off.  But then again most of the time I just show up to goof around and I really dont care if I live or die or anything.

The scoring system does cause a very competitive attitude in some people which can cause some overagression and hostile behavior. Some people who get really competitive, especially ones who believe there certian favorite plane or tactic is the cats meow, seem to think things arent all that fair.

This is where I think there needs to be 3 Arenas (pre-earlywar, mid-war, late-post war).  Put the appropriate planes in each arena and then the SpitV driver wont be pissed because a Ar-234 just zipped past and the guy flying it was laughing at him.  I think this is causing some of the problems.  The Average guy who is not an ace in a P-40 will never fly it because he will die quite often in an arena with much better aircraft.  Making 3 arenas would mean that the lesser used, but still good, planes get used more often too because average pilots could still be competitive in them.

This wont solve all the complaints I am sure.  They may not even slow down.  But I think it would help to at least make things appear to be a bit more even if the planesets are setup good.

I'm somewhat torn on this issue.  By all means, I'm a newbie (been playing just over a month), but I think the good side of the scores page is it encourages me to fly more "realistic" missions.  I am less inclined to spray ammo all over the sky and then slam my plane into the ground as soon as I run out.  If I'm after score, a lot of gamey behavior is prohibited (I'm sure you all can think of a lot of examples).

On the other hand, I hear what Crash is saying.  Going after a good score discourages me from tougher missions like base defense when a field is capped, etc..

As a side note:  I started this tour (my 2nd) with the intention of seeing what kind of score I could get if I tried.  A week in I was around 150 and ranked 16th in bombing (and trust me, I ain't that good).  I had to be very selective about what I engaged and how I did it.

Wasn't as much fun though, going to "try" to forget about score for now and go back to just helping out the rooks  .

Many folks would soon lose interest if there were no scores.  Scores create better competition.  Man, is this AH Woodstock? I feel all this love going around, everyone wants everything to be all fine and dandy, no hostile words towards each other. Boring boring boring. Give me scores, or give me death.

Scores against community? Nah

I always like to see who is the best pilot in certain plane and maybe stick like a bugger with that pilot to learn from him/her.

It also allows me to see who are the highest scoring N1k and Chog dweebs so I can feel a near orgasm when I shoot them down and fill their worthless bodies with 20mm when they open those chutes.. Mhuaahahahahahaha

The score system here is only a sum factor of the statistics.

Score schmore really.  Its the stats that keep me interested.

The difference is not the score page. The difference is the communities. Paying hourly imo made WB guys try to fly for a good number. I dont mean score i mean k/d k/s stuff. In aw if you flew k/d you got alot of flack. It was a badge of honour that you flew on the deck and died each flight.

Both groups are here in Ah. It seems that there are more guys going for a good number plus fun with their squadies.
