new historical achievemnet with award medals
« on: May 07, 2013, 12:20:10 PM »
,I love the achievment system, good work hitech and the guys that made it possible. One aspect that i would like to see added , is that these fellows that actually did it and....DIDNT GET KILLED OR CAPTURED WHILE DOING IT.not counting pothumously awarded,  and so how about a new series...of award achievements...medals.....suc h as the knights cross for killing 50 enemy aircraft without getting killed or captures, the pour le merit(blue max) for killing 20 in ww1 a/c, the navy cross, DFC,silver star, bronze star, etc....based on achieving but without getting killed or captured.

No.  The gameplay impact would be negative by making people going for it overly timid.

My first impulse was the same, but when I thought about the consequences to the game I changed my mind.

With a couple hundred people in the arena a few of them being "timid" isn't going to change anything.

Reward the folks that fly timidly. Fixed it for ya.

I'd rather someone be rewarded for attempting to engage combat rather then pick and run or ignore combat all together. What you will get is a bunch of 51s at 20k waiting for someone at 10k and pick, run.

This isn't worth an Achievement, maybe having someone stay BELOW 7k for 10 minutes and survive in a furball - would be worth an achievement.

Difference is the one flying at 20k can simply dive to deck and run from nearest opponent if he gets threatened, at 7k you have to have good SA and some idea of ACM otherwise you won't last 2 minutes in a furball.

I'd rather see people rewarded for TRYING to fight rather then run/pick.

I was wondering how the server would know I was having AFK sex.

No.  Do you think a pilots in a squadron of Hurricane Mk Is climbing into a formation of 60 He111s with 80 Bf109E-4s flying top cover weren't flying to live?  They had a job to do and they didn't have the luxury of free form, no commitment engagement rules.  The same is true for Fw190s attacking B-17s or Ki-44s attacking B-29s.

In AH that pressure to engage is absent and allows timidity to run rampant.  The less it is encouraged the better.

you can have a really good K/D without flying timidly.

just most can't.

furballs are full of pickers, scavengers and HOers don't make them any better than guys who know when to engage and when to "extend".

I think for example flying a Spitfire mk1 against 6 guys in 109E's all trying to gang you and finishing the 4 frame event with 22 kills and 0 lost planes is nothing short of a miracle and having a blinged up medal just goes to show everyone else how awesome at cartoon pilots you are.

Do I value my opponent more if he is flying to live or flying to die?

Don't sweat it Alpini.

after thinking about it and hearing your thoughts on this matter...i think you guys are right. i just keep seeing fellows now going for certain achievements like 17 kills in a day...or whatever and just go out and ram,ho,pick, bomtard ..and  get kills and get killed doing it...and then doing it again, and again, and again.....just to get the achievement.  how is that anydifferent?

Because they are promoting combat, and getting into the action.

This is the difference, at least they are trying to promote combat, even if they suck at it. Take me for example I am working on the kills in the P40N - as crappy of a plane it is, I have to fly real timid otherwise once more then one people see's that Icon it attracts a beehive.
Last night I made 3 attempts to get it, scored even 4 kills while never going above 10k in a furball, except some La7 climbed to 16k and when he seen me he dove down when I was RTB to rearm and caught me.
