Ki-44
« on: May 09, 2013, 11:45:22 AM »
If it can be added and modeled as well as HTC did the ki-43 it should be a blast to fly.

Thanks.

hmmm a more powerful ki-43 that can roll and turn nearly aswell.  Are you sure you want what your asking for?  Not as if the ki-84 and niki don't cover uber Japanese rides already but i'll give it a +1 for variety.

still would rather have the yak-3 or meteor first.

Nakajima fighter rules! :D

Ki-44-II would be excellent intercepter like TAIC's report.

Faster than any Japanese fighter except Ki-84. (605km/h 5,200m)
Excellent climb (4 minutes 26 seconds to 5,000m)
Excellent dive performance (over 850km/h)
Good roll performance.
Good maneuverability with "butterfly" combat flap.
Better armament than Ki-43 (12.7mm x4, 250 rounds per gun)

I hope that HTC will model Ho-301 rocket cannon.  :)

Ki-44 and J2M are two of the few remaining competitive fighters left to be added. G.55, Re.2005, Ki-100, Yak-3, P-63, He162 and Meteor are probably the other ones.  Perhaps the Ki-102 might be as well.  The B7A 'Grace' could probably be pressed into service as a somewhat competitive fighter.  Perhaps the SB2C and Firefly as well.

Of course there are many competitive variants of aircraft already in AH that could be added as well.

As much as I like the idea of German iron, not so sure about the 162, as it only had 1 kill if dogfights is accurate.  152 had 7 I believe.

But the yak-3, re. 2005, and p-63 are a must for the Italian and Russian line up.

And a +5 for the meteor

The ki-44 is waaay powerful for the MA. I want my meteor. Hell, no, bring me the English Electric Lightning to chase down those damn jets!!! Or even better, an F-22.

hmmm a more powerful ki-43 that can roll and turn nearly aswell.

What makes you think that the turn radius of the Ki-44 will be any where near of the Ki-43?

It won't. The difference in wing loading is staggering. Ki-43 is at ~121kg/sqm while the Ki-44-II is closing "the early 109G territory" at 184kg/sqm. Considering how effective the 109's flaps are in AH, I'd say it it'll be much closer to the 109F-4/109G-2 in turn radius. Speed will be lower than 109G-2 especially at higher altitudes.

Not as if the ki-84 and niki don't cover uber Japanese rides already but i'll give it a +1 for variety.

It's not "an uber Japanese ride". Ki-44-II went to production in late '42. Ki-84 will be better overall in AH just like it was in real life. Ki-84 is for example faster and has a lower wingloading.

still would rather have the yak-3 or meteor first.

Well using your logic above one could say that the British and Soviet "uber planes" are well covered aswell. :)

More Japanese planes is generally good.

However, I hope it will be nothing like the KI43/Brew. I have developed a strong resentment of the KI43s that like to come along and jump in when some K4/La7/P51 force me to slow down and fight them. I now target them at a priority much higher then their actual threat just to prevent them from getting a free kill on me. It is silly, but a KI43 in the area keeps me more worried than a KI84.
