WW2 Online?

Hey Wegga: How can anyone know what to think about WW2OL if it's not out yet.  There is a story about one of the original participants/survivors of the battle of the little bighorn or Custer battle.  Book writers and newspaper reporters constantly hounded a Lakota man named Good Fox for accounts of the battle.  Good Fox replied: "There are a hundreds of books written about this the Custer battle by people who were not there- I was there-and all I saw was one big cloud of dust".

I think if you were to ask, most AH fans like late war stuff. As for me, If the early war planes didn't discourage me, The recommended system spec,s sure did.

FWIW I think "Its not just a flight sim " because "its just a ground sim". From everything I've read over there, you are just going to be flying support, if you are in a fighter. That sounds very realistic, and very boring.

Its a legitamate question.  Are you going to keep playing Aces High when WW2 Online comes out, and why?

This is a HUGE question, since WW2OL potentially could kill AH.

I will try it, and if I find no game killing faults, then I am definetly going to switch.  I have flown enough planes for awhile (and I don't think variety makes it better, in fact having to be restricted to one or two designs in a historical matchup is fresh and new to me).

I was hoping the addition of vehicles, then navy ships would make this game a fully combined arms sim, but the navy and army are only partially implemented.  They're not really playable as is.

The Virtual Battlefield is the game I wanted since I started playing games.  Why it has taken so long to make a good version of it is very odd to me.

The only thing I would regret is leaving HiTech and Pyro and the rest, since this is one of my favorite games.  I hope that WW2OL doesn't put them out of buisness, I really do.

But, I am not going to play both.  I will pick the better one and go with that.

Hans.

Gotta disagree there Easymo,

If the flight model is equal to WB/AH, I'd say it would be a blast. Chess vs checkers. I for one am tired of the same old fantasy dogfight every night. I want all the surprise and suspense a persistent scenario with next generation icons will bring.

I'm gonna be playing in German armor at 1st. Let me give you an example. My platoon commander might radio HQ for some air cover. You might take a Bf-109 escort mission for the Stukas we've asked for. Stukas need to be less than 10k to find their prey. Spitfires will be coming. Prepare for a low-alt malee with dozens of your teammates below on the ground watching you succeed or fail!

Dogfighting is the most fun I've had online so far, but I'm itching to try something with a lil' more depth. Might be big fun!

yeah this fantasy dogfighintg, F4u's vs P51's i ain't too hot on it.

If they can pull off all the stuff they r boasting.... only time will tell.  The only thing is, with the ideas about rank and mission points, it will encourage support missions, and team work. Something lacking i feel in AH.

Hans you must ba about 10 if you really think that. You can't see beyond the tip of your own excitement and realise that others just may not want a "WorldWar All Generals! All the Time! Online".

I could play both if I want to. No biggy. But I can't stand reading the boards let alone get excited about playing with a bunch of "ph34R m3 eL1t3 d3wDz"

Yes. That is my honest thought as regards to WW2O.  I'll try it out but if I hate the "Generals try and surpress the furballers" crap here I know I'm going to hate it over there!

We'll have perks, they'll have rank. Points, points, points. We have a mission planer. Oh! So do they. Folks here aren't forced to play by any set of rules (to the chagrin of many) They won't be in WW2O either. I think many of you are missing that key issue. They have a very small, limited release of early war planes. We have ALOT of mid and late war planes.

The only things I see that WW2O has that AH doesn't is foot soldiers, bridges and no paying customers.

"Quick someone pull the corn cob outta deje vu's rear"

This is not possible since he and the cob share vital organs.  To seperate them would result in the death of either him or the cob.

I can't wait for WWII online to come out.  It may be neat... Then again... it may be some nightmare everquest live 24/7 online thing.   Still... If it were the latter, I wouldn't mind seeing some hardcore AH strat freaks leaving for WWII.

Anyone remember the early topic here where a guy just went off on AH and HTC about the inaccuracy and simplicity of the B-17 Flight Model here?

Rant, rant, rant..followed by "just wait until B-17II gets here! THOSE guys are even modeling the bugs smashing on the windscreen as you take off! Now THAT'S going to be a REAL FLIGHT SIM!"

All this long before B-17II ever hit the store shelves.

Wonder why we haven't heard from HIM?

I think many people have unreasonable expectations for WW2OL. I hope they will be able to adjust if it doesn't instantly meet and exceed the personal standards they have set in their minds.

It's an incredibly massive undertaking into new uncharted territory. Only time will tell. I wish them well, BTW. Anyone doing WW2 ACM is OK in my book!
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

I don't understand all the fuss around WW2OL..

It's not out yet. We'll see if and when it is.

Aces High is out here and now, let's enjoy it.

WWII OL looks interesting, though, I expect to have worse flight models, but superior vehicle handling than in AH.
Terrain will be also more richer what comes to some *real* cover and not just some on/off ground clutters.

It'll be interesting how it will work, since it is *very* big project they're working on..
I do of course hope that they get it good, since it would be really a blast to have simulation wheres vehicles, planes, ships....
Though, I might be more worried about it being too big for too few players.
Think about the soldiers,  everyone is supposed to be a real player and yet there should be tanks and planes!
I really wonder how it will work... and if technology works, will there be enough players?

I'm just happy that there's other WW2 flight sims out there. Never understood the disgruntled feelings towards other WW2 sims. It's good we have such a great game like WW2OL coming out. I look forward to trying it out and I hope by all means that it is 200 % better than AH in every area.

I sure do; "the boost pressure is way off, why don't my dials line up correctly"... I even alluded to this fellow about a week ago in another (similar) thread. I don't know about you guys, but B17II hasn't pulled me off AH yet.

I'm with ya all the way, Toad. I think the sim will do just fine, eventually. I do strongly believe it is going to go through teething pains, as all sims do, but more so because of the extremely unrealistic expectations generated. Nothing can live up to the hype that has been generated.
