California sinking into the ocean suppose to be a bad thing? LOL

Not if Hollywood disappears in such an event.  Actors these days are like dirty diapers.

Would Yuma still be 115 in the summer months if it were now surfside, hmmmm. I suppose not.

If you are lookin for the "Big One" in Cali??? You are in the wrong spot..
You need to go North, to Oregon or Washington, that is the sticking point..

California has had many quakes, much ground shift, so has Alaska..
But the PNW, very little.. Not for a few hundred years.. That shows
the place where the pressure is building.. Boy howdy, ready to rip any time!

Cascade Subduction fault, one of the largest in the world.. About 50 miles
off the OR/WA coast, right where the continental shelf drops into the Pacific
basin..

And we have a whole string of Volcanoes that feed off of that fault line too..
Mt Baker, Mt Rainier, Mt St Helens, Mt Hood, and many more..

I'm sittin right on top of it.. WooHoo, gonna be a hell of a ride!

i remember a big one in the early 70s 71

6.6 quake lasting 90 seconds.
I was living in North Hollywood.
The Van Norman Dam (earthen dam) came within 10 seconds (according to the experts) of letting go with the potential to take approx. 100,000 people that lived beneath it. Dam was drained later.

If the Big One hits in Southern California the damage to Newport Harbor will be devasting and the tsunami that rushes up the channel behind it will be a major killer.

I worked for SCE for about 10 years, structural draftsman in the nuclear power plant section. The cooling radiators that extend about a third of mile into the ocean will probably fracture, if the quake is 8.0 or above (had a friend in the seismic section). Radioactive water will be released and follow the current south to the tip of Baja and then swing east into the Pacific.
Then if San Onofre goes "china" the geyser of steam will will spread out and drift east, with the potential to take out an area the size of Pennsylvania.
San Onofre has triple systems, should be able to do a rapid shutdown, hopefully.

Was up on 9th floor during one in early 90's in SD. The beds would pull back about 2-4feet from the wall and then slam back into it. Pictures all on floor, cabinets open, dishes on floor, things broken everywhere,  chandelier swinging sometimes almost touching ceiling, every car alarm in parking lot going off, and that was only a ~5.5...

Hey Tomcat, what Unit at Riley? I was 1/16th.

And once again, I see Coombz posting his subtle Anti - American BS as usual

I swear somewhere down the line, he must've been denied a visa or something.
