Two years ago this week, the six of us showed up to an empty office for the first time to begin this venture. Time flies...

And my...what a reward for us end users! <S> HTC, Happy Birthday! You've *almost* grown  out of those diapers!  I, for one, am certainly glad I came to this sim.

And at a top speed of about 5knots, it'll only take an hour or two to get to shore

Landing craft will certainly be a great addition to AH, providing another reason for involving CV's in field capture.

What are the bets on infantry some time in the near future?

For those new to WW2 games, AH will make a great introduction to the genre

Can you say, WW2OL 'lite'?

I'm with you, Jekyl.  A WW-2 combined arms game is what I am looking for.

WW-2 Online is naturally going to be compared to this, but hopefully HTC is not too reluctant to add in the few, last bits to make this game a reasonable war game instead of mostly a flight sim.  I like flying, don't get me wrong, but I see no reason you can't have both.

All they really need is to add some simple treelines, small towns, roads (with bridges), and redo the ship gunnery aiming and your set.

Hans.

When you think about it Hans, an FPS component in AH makes a lot of sense.  Its an easy way to get LOTS of new players into the game.

Unlike WW2OL, AH could give all the FPS guys sniperscopes and machine guns, grenades and rocket launchers and you'd probably see a massive influx of people who can't be bothered going through the learning curve that would be necessary for WW2OL.

An 'ezymode' combined arms game could be a real winner in the market, and could rake in some serious cash for HTC.

Its also a good way to suck up alot of HTC's bandwidth depriving pilots access to the server.  I would definately rather see more aircraft than a billion ground troups running around.

i like the ground troops idea.  ya, they will suck up some bandwidth from the planes, but most guys who flew redbaron 3d will agree that without ground action and the ability to capture ground eventually it becomes clear that your flights are pointless. just killing planes to get the kill/death ratio up gets old.  killing a c47 is easy, sitting duck, boring.  but killing THE c47 who is about to sneak in and capture your feild is a rush.
i think the more elements of real war you have going on the more realistic your flights and objectives will be.  also the more diverse your options the more people you will atract, htc will make more money and they could have more rescorses to provide more arenas so you could have choices as to what type of action you want(like a planes only arena for guys who aren't bored with- go up, kill a few, die, repeat.

btw billions of ground troops=billions of targs to straff

Oh yeah, wouldn't want some new customers and higher numbers. That would spoil the elitist atmosphere of the game.

Sorry raub, but you are way off base here.  Any particular reason you play AH instead of something like SWAT 3, Quake or Rogue Spear?  Or do you play both?

If so, do you sit back and think "You know, it would be really great if I could do all of this in Aces High".

I don't.

Aces High is a great flight sim.  Adding FPS capabilities and clientel would not enhance the fighter/bomber aspects at all.  It would simply suck up bandwidth.

Maybe HTC could pursue an FPS in a different arena, one that wouldn't impact the flight server.  Then I wouldn't really give a rat's bellybutton about it... and elitist snobs like myself would not be demanding that HTC forgoe extra revenue that you seem so sure would be generated.
