Neat trip today
« on: May 28, 2013, 10:41:56 PM »
Went by small plane and a 1.5 hour boat ride to visit several gold mining operations in Colombia today for work. You can see the defensive firing positions on the corners of the mining dredge. There were also heavy weapons mounts as well but you cannot really see in the photo. Each machine had soldiers guarding.

Now spending the night in a mining camp which is actually pretty nice. My room is basic but clean and even with satellite TV and internet.

Never been to Colombia.  Tony put me off the place:

Interesting photos; looks like are mining for gold direct from riverbed.
I used to work for Princess Cruises, been many times in Cartagena, Columbia,   dangerous place for tourists to go out, many got robed, but they have a lots of jewelries for sale, especially emeralds at low price.
