I like the idea of icons designating between a bomber or a fighter.  It would make it far easier to see whats going on when I bring up the map. Perhaps instead of a dot, a small "+" symbol to designate a bomber formation.

No need, just add 2 more dots for the drones, problem solved.

I think we are straying from the "fog of war" aspect- the aspect where one has to physically find out what it is they are up against and plan their tactics accordingly. We keep wanting to add this and that little convenience, and that slowly takes away from some of the mystery.
