Countries
« on: June 11, 2013, 11:32:34 PM »
I can't think of anything else to call this thread so that's what I'm going with...

I've noticed of the last few months, players talk about tweaking the strats or modifying the ease of capturing bases or winning the war. I've seen improvements made to all of these systems in the last 4 years I've been playing, all of them are for the better IMO (even if they didn't go over too well at first).

The problem that I've noticed now is that Bishops win about 90% of the maps, Rooks win 19.9% and the Knights win 0.1%. The main problem as far as I can tell is that players in each country fall into a mind set that is established by the other country's players (or are attracted to that country because it fits their preferred fighting style). I remember years ago the number of maps won by the Bish and Rooks were much closer to an even split and the Nits had a higher win percentage.

I would like to see things the way they were because it made fighting a lot more fun. In an attempt to restore this state of fun having (you heard what I said), the following ideas came to mind:

1) As I said above, players seem to be drawn towards a country or fall into that country's fighting style. A possible work around (may not be perfect) is to have players who are not registered to a squad moved to other countries when they log in, specifically the country with the lowest numbers. The would still have the option to move back to the country they want but this should help balance numbers a bit and keep players introduced to a wider variety of combat.

2) ENY is a joke... that is the attitude towards a lot of players in game. ENY as it stands now does little to impact a country with larger numbers. From what I've noticed (feel free to correct me on this one) ENY limit kicks in when a country out numbers each of the other countries by a certain percentage (seems to be about 20%). That works when two of the sides have roughly equal numbers, which a lot of times they don't. Instead it should be if Bish and Rooks have X number of players more than Nits, then Bish and Rooks should both receive an ENY cap. ENY cap should also increase a bit more drastically than it currently does.

3) Rewards, as of right now you get 35 perk points for winning the war. For some players this has become hardly any reason to win the war at all. The already have so many that 35 perks is little temptation. The reward for winning the war should be higher IMO, at least 50 perks if not more. Another incentive (this one is a bit risky though) is to give a small reward for capturing each base. This reward however would be split with all the players who were within a certain distance of the base. So if 15 people captured the base and the payout was 5 perks then each player would receive 0.3 perks for the capture.

Just some ideas that I've been batting around to try make the game more interesting. Thoughts?

I think the ENY should kick in a bit sooner.  Currently, I think it is too forgiving.  It isnt like the massed hordes would stop, they'd go from using P51D's to P38L's.

I do think ENY should be applied more aggressively, but the idea that if Bishops have 200, Knights have 101 and Rooks have 100 the Knights should also suffer the Bishop's ENY penalty is nothing short of absurd.

I was having a hard time putting my system into words (didn't fully understand when it kicked in). In your example the nits only outnumber the rooks by 1 so they would still be okay. The nits wouldn't receive a cap until they outnumbered the rooks by... say 10% of the rooks population. For the sake of argument, lets say that the ENY value doubles (from ENY 1 at 10% over population) every 10% increase based on the lowest population.

That slope means:

10% = 1 ENY
20% = 2 ENY
30% = 4 ENY
40% = 8 ENY
------------
100% = 512 ENY

Granted, the 100% being 512 ENY cap is quite high. I've never seen a country with double the population of another country though so who's to say, I am only using it for the sake of the example anyway. My example is a very rough system that I feel is too forgiving at the low end.

ENY should also take into account the map size, to an extent. On a large map players have the room to spread out (the main reason I like them so much), but on a small map players are more or less forced into a horde or firbal because they don't have a choice. A smaller map should also make ENY kick in a bit sooner.

I think the ENY should kick in a bit sooner.  Currently, I think it is too forgiving.  It isnt like the massed hordes would stop, they'd go from using P51D's to P38L's.

True, but I've never seen a bish P-38 raid that didn't have a group of pones in it. It would help take the pony escorts out of the picture and leave the defenders free to deal with the 38s since they are the main threat anyway.
