Jeep with 37mm
« on: June 14, 2013, 12:57:58 PM »
I would very much like to have the jeep with the 37mm or twin bazookas. AkAk posted pictures of them in another thread. That would be a fun little vehicle.

A Rat Patrol type attack Jeep would be awesome.

I don't know how common the jeep mounted bazookas were.  I've only found one unit that used them, the I&R (Intelligence and Reconnaissance) platoon of the 60th IR of the 9th ID but have seen some mentions of other I&R platoons in other regiments using them as well but nothing to confirm that.

It was improvised, during the Battle of the bulge and late stages of the ETO they did to combat german tanks used for reconnaissance, it was purely a battlefield modification. This is all the info I can get on it.

This would have been even more epic if I had a bazooka to kill the T34 with.  :D

In any event the SAS and LRDP frequently used twin .303 vickers guns on either the rear centre post or the front passenger dash or both or in of the those positions  with a .5 browning in the other position.

37mm Bofors were carried on the back of Ford F30 and Chevy WB30's tyrpically with 45 rounds of HE 45 rounds AP. This extra fire power was a mixed blessing for the LRDP as the heavier trucks often got stuck in sand.

I don't know how hard it would be to code in the game but it looks like all the basic components are already in the game. 37mm with 45 he and 45 AP rounds  man I could have fun with that.

I think we all could, I'm just worried that it might end up being the only thing taken up once people get good at using the 37mm for AA duty.

Looking at the pictures of it, I would think it would only be good as a AA vehicle for low flying aircraft. Same up angle as the pintel guns on a tank. So the wirble would still be the choice for AA defense.
