I agree!  Very similar to the wonder Brewster we have in AH!   ;)

My question is what purpose does all this micro-maneuverability serve in a jet fighter such as this?  I'd think that if it slowed down that far it would be a sitting duck for enemy fighters.  Same goes for the F-22 Raptor.

Ya know I've often wondered that myself. And with the fire and forget missiles out there these days I wonder if thrust vectoring is feasible defense against those things. Someone must think so, for the cost to build these planes is plumb nuts.

Indeed.  I often wonder why not simply build more of the tried and true F15, F16, F18, Blackhawk, etc.  Then again, should billions and billions of $$$ be put in to 100's and 100's of aircraft of the tried and true or the same amount of money be put in to fewer and more specialized aircraft such as the F22, F35, Osprey, etc.  Six one way and a half dozen the other I suppose.

Meh, the brewster we have in game flies like a brick compared to what it did in real life!  :devil

When it comes to cost you must realize that operating a modern jet fighter is very expensive regardless of the cost of the jet itself. After about 50 training flights you've spent more on fuel alone than on buying the aircraft; jet fuel isn't cheap and these birds are thirsty. So saving on performance or capability isn't really that much of a saving when you consider the lifetime cost of the aircraft.

In the F-35 thrust vectoring is more important for VTOL, but saying it's useless or a waste of money is not a good argument against it. What if you run out of missiles and you have to get in close for the kill? You are going to be glad you've got that thrust vectoring and your opponent doesn't.

Yup. I'd rather have it than not have it, and since it doesn't cost more than few hours of gas anyways I'd just take one day off... ;)

Yes, they are quite thirsty but, the cost of a multi-billion dollar fighter, not so much.

Think of the entire spectrum, from concept to RnD, to trials and implementation, etc.  The F22 and F35 are both multi-billion dollar aircraft, the most expensive ever even after adjusting for inflation, etc. Mind you, I'm not an opponent of the programs, I just like putting things in to perspective.  NATO forces were able to, at least with most war models ever produced and that includes Soviets models, with far inferior numbers but far superior training, tactics, and equipment.  Interesting stuff.
