Doesn't look like they way the guy let go of it, as if almost on cue, was an accident...

I would have stopped what I was doing, even as a performer, just to go out of my way to correct the situation, after making sure the jackwagon that dropped got on down with it, first.   I certainly would have made sure that I didn't step on it...  repeatedly.

I suppose some of us were raised differently...

I was raised well.  I don't like the fact that our flag got stepped on..  It is very disrespectful.  If it was intentional I would agree with me upset and calling him out on it.  He stated that it was an accident and wasn't supposed to happen like that.

Doesn't look like an accident by any stretch of the imagination to me, and if it was he could've had enough respect to not walk on it again.. and again.. and again after seeing he was.
