Anyone Remember Wing Commander?
« on: June 26, 2013, 08:04:59 PM »
Or Privateer, or Freelancer.  They're doing a new space sim...the graphics are amazing; awhile til it's available, but may be fun since it's a cockpit-view space combat sim.  Here's some linkies to chat about:

This one shows some in-game video with the models...   let me know what you think.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=JrQ0qMRZ_1Q

I loved Wing Commander.  When I moved out to college, my parents promised me a computer, "but no video games".  My dad was even checking the hard drive of the computer and all the diskettes I was taking with me before I left.  So I put the game diskettes (the old floppy ones) in an empty 5.25" drive bay inside the computer, which I removed and installed in my dorm room.

Actually I still have that 386 collecting dust in the closet, I should find out if it still works.

Wing Commander 2 was great as well.  By the way, all the french language I know?  'Cause of Wing Commander....

I remember Privateer and enjoyed the ability to go trade with other star systems as well as upgrade your ship with new technology.  This looks like it has promise.

Just watched Wing Commander over the weekend and then I see this post....coincidence?

Got mine!  I bought in the first week when I heard about this.

I can remember back in the day when people bought entirely new IBM clone's to "play the new Wing Commander" whenever it would come out, it was THAT huge of a game.  I believe most of them sold millions of copies, with one title being over 3 million total sales if memory serves.

It was ground breaking in so many ways, I believe it was the 3rd installment that used to first full motion video in any game, and was shot on a pro sound/video stage on blue screen.

Many many nights the people in the apartment below me would give me angered looks as I had been up all night playing WC with the sound blasting through my stereo.

I think Roberts' vision and ability is 2nd to none, and this will be THE game when it comes out, and will redefine the genre of space combat.  If you take the time to watch and read everything they have planned, the scope of this game is mind blowing, like EvE x 10.  I'm a little scared about it to be honest, as if the addiction factor is the same as earlier WC products, and the world they're creating is as big as they claim....many wasted hours are about to be...wasted...

I just look forwards to paying once, and playing forever.

I still make ship models for freelancer, and star citizen will support mods and add-ons making the game unlimited.

Right on Commander! (Jameson) :aok
In 1985 on my Commodore 64, Elite was the best thing ever.
I hope Braben gets it right with Elite Dangerous.

I am watching both the new Elite and Star Citizen with great interest.

I LOVED Elite on the C64 back in the '80s.

Been watching this one. I'd still rather have a new X-Wing, though.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.
