squad imitations
« on: June 30, 2013, 04:16:09 AM »
I wish for some way that the pilot roster would be able to differentiate between the original and a fake.  As it stands someone can just put in spaces and it looks identical.

Have had 2 instances of players imitating our pilots and squadron tag this month.

stop making a big deal out of it and they will go away.  I have created many squad names as a joke

army of muppets
army of lopez
sgt akpepper's lonely hearts club band
oppa gangnam style

and many others I have forgotten.  btw somebody else used to fly with the id semp before me.  I patiently waited for 2 years untill the id was available and have had it since then.  I also waited patiently till the midway id was available and have kept it since then.  I hardly ever play with it though.

but the main thing is as ht has mentioned before, something along the lines that nobody "owns" a squad name or an id.  if it is available it can be used.  if you stop making a big deal out of it they will go away. as obviously the intention was too annoy you.

don't even need to put spaces.. squad names can be identical..

eg. in the late war arena, I am in "The Few" now also.

Yaknow, maybe there's some sort of point being made and all but, honestly, players
going out of their way to grief whole squads now isn't impressing me. Doubt it's
impressing much of anyone but that's for them to say (or not).

It's a sad commentary that this is what the game seems to be about for so many today. Switching names to both "shade" as an old player come back, or or just so a certain player can't get his name back. Changing squad names just to tweak the squad they are copying. Sounds like a bunch of old ladies trying to get back at the other old lady who wins the bingo jackpot too often. It's rather embarrassing to be part of this community.

Maybe I'm overly-optimistic but I'd still like to think it's a small, attention-starved minority that resorts to such.

I take it as something as a compliment

If they want to troll you so badly then you must be doing something right :)

Maybe that's your problem, maybe you should make your squad so incredibly bad that NO one
wants to mimic you  :lol  Think it's worked out so far for the Headhunters.  :aok

 :rofl That's pretty sad.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

what is sad?  considering all the annoying things midway has said about me, well just annoying the heck out of him now.  as for the money that I pay a month, well, lets just say that one year of monthly dues is less than what I make in one day of ot.

I'm for banter and some jokes and still don't mind there being this fake,  but when I see Midway of The Few people will get confused and be like

"oh what now bruv has lost the plot"   when I clearly haven't.

We have nothing to do with the midway / who / php persona and people like Daddkev, jeff and now you kvuo need to appreciate that some people have put alot of time and effort (10 years and counting)  into a squad name or reputation.

Not to exaggerate what is happening here but in the real world if you setup a company called Microsoft and pretended to be Bill Gates you'd get shut down pretty quick  ;).

My wish is to make squad creation unique to the owner and this clearly visible in-game and on the clipboard roster.  Also whilst we are on the subject how difficult would it be to customise squad membership to vox channel.   Currently anyone can tune to any number and grief squadrons.   If I use squad text I should be able to tune into my squadron in game and have some sort of privacy.  I already have this in the form of a 3rd party vox server but I can imagine some squads that don't, being griefed by these sorts of players.

I have no plans on using the name.. I was just testing when I posted that to be sure the game still worked the same way I had remembered (allowing identical squad names)..  it does, and that's how there are multi-wing megasquads.

yep it stinks when mis-used in this way.

Obviously multi wing squads whilst against HTC accepted norms of 32 players max can always add  something like I , II, III etc.

Squad names are keyed on the GameID used to create the squad (the invite even says "you have been invited to [playername]" instead of "you have been invited to [squadname]"). That is why you can use identical squad names. I agree that it's too bad there are so many immature numpties out there that seem to live just to grief others.

At some point in the past HTC made it plain that in the end they own all names inside of this game.

This came out of a long vicious spat over who owned a squad name.

The only thing we are paying for is access to the sand box.

Anyone ever notice no one makes up a squad name like "Nancy Pants Sissy Boys" then proceeds as a squad to kick the snot out of everyone in the MA. It's always something vaguely manly and meaningful in a kiddy game with a few exceptions. Always liked the idea of "300 Sheep" after that movie came out and our fondness for wooly lovin.
