Altitude, Airspeed & Endurance achievements
« on: June 30, 2013, 09:03:56 AM »
Just some ideas - values are examples and should probably be tweaked - maybe limited to an a/c type?

Altitude - Exceed 40kft or perhaps even 50kft and land safely.
Airspeed - Exceed 500mph and land safely.
Endurance - Exceed 4 hours airborne and land safely.

Of course one value might be run of the mill for one type, but a challenge in another.

why? there are a lot of planes that can exceed 500mph land safely...and 4 hours of flight time? that's not an achievement, it's a waste of time.

Take off, climb, dive, land in the forest somewhere quiet, go watch a movie at the cineplex, come back to the game, take off and land properly. Tada...three achievements (that add nothing to the game) all at once.

Yup.  Ideally achievements should be associated with desirable gameplay behavior.

OK - I may be nuts but 40k alt, 515 mph dive in a mossie and four hours flight on a bomb run is an achievement for me!  Sad eh? :)

I wonder how survivable a bomb run on the HQ at 40,000ft would be in the Mossie?  I wonder what size bombload one could actually lift that high?  A 'cookie' I doubt.  Four 500lbs bombs?  Maybe.  Four 250lb bombs might be the limit.

I dropped a cookie on HQ from 30k in a single Mossie XVI - direct hit!    But I have got my Mossie VI up to 39,950... then my game crashed...

On May 15, 2010 I strapped on a Me-163 and climbed to an absolute altitude of 90,900 feet. On decent my speed maxed at 754 mph. Of course I stuck the landing without having to parachute.

If I wanted to really demonstrate boredom I would climb to 90k again and parachute. We could then see if I break the sound barrier on the way down. Or, hit the silk right away and see how long it took me to touch boots on the ground.

All worthy achievements!

To be fair!!!!
What about doing something absolutely insane, crazy, stupid, and somehow landed it?  Maybe add that to the hidden list.
...One of which is an achievement for kill shooting yourself in a 262 :uhoh

Here is an actual example:  (HTC I want this awarded to me :D)

Land your 262 after destroying your engines from hitting a tree while blacked out in a dive traveling 650+mph, and glide over 20 miles to land at an airfield capped by 2 P47s.
I want credit for that, I really do, no one will believe me otherwise :cry

So how about a +1 to extreme and unlikely.

With unlimited fuel, you can get 163 to 100,000 feet and 1000mph on the way down but I consider offline altitude records to be the same as steroid enhanced records in sports.

I do all my stuff in the main arena.
