60k sounds pricey for geo. I got 2 air 'heat pumps' for my house and they dropped my electricity consumption from 32000kwh a year to 17k. They paid themselves back in little over 2 years.

I have family that live in the Utah/Colorado basin where the largest reserves for natural gas and oil are found in America. There have been news stories pointing out how this basin has more recoverable energy than all of the Middle East.

Yes, multinational corporations come in and "make the profit," or do they? First, they have caused a massive economic boom in the area. Hundreds, then thousands of workers making $50-100k a year. All kinds of young men who barely graduated high school, never went to college but are willing to work hard are making the kind of wages that others get a bachelor or masters degree to make. My nephew works a hard 60hours a week, has a GED and is taking home $70k a year.

Gas and oil prices have remained steady even as inflation has caused milk, bread and other food stuffs to roughly double in price. My Mom and Dad owned 20 acres that 10 years ago was worth $50k total. Now they are being offered 5 times that for the same acreage.

Then these corporations, they pay tens of billions in energy taxes and mineral rights. As for other 'greedy profits' these corporations are owned by stock holders, the largest of which are pension funds. These energy corporations make money, the pension funds remain healthy and pensioners have monthly checks to show for it. Most of the "profits" go into stock prices and dividends to stock holders.

We seem to get caught up in the fact that the CEO of these corporations make $20 million or more. Well, if you consider that this greedy CEO leads an organization that improves the quality of life, wages and retirements for tens of thousands of people...what is that worth?

If the UK is smart enough to allow the exploration and extraction of this energy you will see tens of thousands of hard working jobs making a pretty good living. We have often moaned at the MASSIVE wealth we have sent to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc with "our oil" money. Now is the chance to bring that massive wealth home and you are crying about it?!?! It is estimated that Americans send $700 billion of oil money to the Middle East. Imagine keeping that $700 billion a year home. Government formulas tell us that would create 7 million middle class jobs over the next 20-years. And you are whining about that?

The thought of trading two dozen CEO jobs making $20 million jobs for 7 million middle class jobs....I would take that trade every day of the week and ten times on Sunday. We win. Screw the millionaires!

Just my two cents.

If you are serious send me a PM. I can put you in touch with people who know who to contact to get hired. You would need to relocate to rural Utah or Colorado, though the money is good.

I am assuming you're talking about being a roughneck, its quite hard to get in with no experience.  I had been trying for the last year and a half and just recently got a call back from Oklahoma City.  I leave on tuesday and come home on thursday, travel all the way there for a survey and a drug test.  From there I will go to training for a week and then onto a rig for 2 weeks.

Geothermal takes heat from inside the earth and releases it into the atmosphere.

I wonder if the global warming people have addressed this?

get huge tax breaks for the units we install.  it has a water well with a pump that pumps water to the unit on average temperature of water is 45 degrees, the unit does basically the same as a refrigerator does and returns the water back to the well at around 33 degrees, pretty neat how they work.  As far as installing one in my house I would need a well, update electrical service to 200 amp, and replumb the entire heating system.

I really hope this isn't the case time wise. I can't afford to go back and forth and what not.
Well I'll know when/if I talk to someone.

yeah like I said took me a year and a half, I went on indeed.com, theglassdoor.com,  and searched for floorhand jobs religiously every day,  Keep with it marine  :aok.  Zach some companies pay your travel, my dad works for sidewinder drilling and they pay airfare and a rent a car, but he drives his personal truck out to the job and leaves it that way he has his own vehicle and doesnt have to ask everyone else if they need the car.

Speaking from someone who lives in the heart of Natural gas land.

The way that some states regulate Shale gas, I can't see England and all it's Nanny state BS, going for regulations and the pollution and deaths... yes... deaths, that happen here in West Virginia let alone the rest of the big plays all over the US.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!
