La-7 9th GIAP , 1945 ( W I P )
« on: July 04, 2013, 12:23:51 PM »
Just started it a couple days ago, haven't really put much time into it yet just getting the basic colors and stuff on it first. Just thought I should release the stages of my skin and take help on the way. I haven't started weathering it yet, or even minor details. I submitted "Yellow 07" a few weeks ago, hopefully we will see another skin in Aces High soon.  :)

Oh and question: The star on the tail, it is folding over the edge of the rudder and I don't know how to fix it. I have tried moving it back and even forwards in PS CS6 but it still shows up as folded.

Thank you Lyric for providing this photo

Skin at the very top

With bump mapping, just wanted to see how it looked with it turned on.

I don't think that's a combat skin...   :headscratch:

Watched films, it was used in the late war. Lyric posted a video of it in the other thread.

Okay, so it was flown in some propoganda films... I haven't seen them. Did it actively see combat? Or was this essentially just a stunt? You know the Soviets loved their propoganda stunts...

Those planes in the film screencaptures are La-9s, not La-7s...

The top point of the star is at the hinge point.

Also note that the right and left sides of the tail are not properly symmetrical on the skin plate..... it produces miss aligned star points when looking back from the pilots view............. very annoying . You will have to fiddle with that for a while to get stuff lined up.

I'll say again the joint lines on the wings should be barely discernible certainly not a different colour or hue to the cover strip.

Check you are depicting an La7 exhaust louvre and not an La5FN exhaust louvre. your Osprey plates are more exact in this respect.

I tried moving it there, it just shows up in that spot again. I will try to scratch the skin and remake it but I don't know what is wrong with it. It isn't showing up like that in Skin Viewer.

Your vocabulary is kicking my bellybutton right now, lol. What do you suggest I do about it, the same thing you suggested in the last thread?

Again, vocabulary. Just a freshman in college, Okay thank you. Will work on it.

If the La-7 is anything like the La-5FN  you have to make a star with the center portion doubled up, so it has two upper points close together. Look at the default La-5FN skin to see what I mean.

Lyric posted a video of it in the other thread.

The video is a post war film not of the plane in question I only posted it to give you some reference as to what the actual aircraft may have looked like.

Yes it did fly like that for a few days. It was due to a misunderstanding between the pilot & the crew chief. I posted a link in Ghosts other thread about it but it is not working at present.

Long story short the pilot was talking to his crew chief that after the war there should be a memorial of a LA-7 done with the entire aircraft painted red. Then put on a platform for all to see. Some how the crew chief thought he wanted his painted red. So the next day when the pilot was scrambled he was shocked to find a bright red La-7 waiting for him. Supposedly the pilot was so upset he pulled his pistol & went looking for the crew chief to shoot him.

After a few days it was returned back to it's proper paint scheme.
No photos are known to exist of that scheme.
The story was recounted years later by the pilot himself in an interview.
The Germans who saw the plane had called him the Russian red baron.
