email providers
« on: July 05, 2013, 03:27:02 PM »
I use hotmail for email instead of my ip providers email sometimes.  Hotmail has changed to outlook and wants a phone number now for me to access my account.  I don't think they need a phone number or alternate email address. At least I am really reluctant to give them one.

If I were to switch, what would you guys think would be a decent email provider, or is there any anymore?

Gmail asks for a phone number, but you do not have to provide it.

And you should be concerned about Google/Gmail.  I was sending an email the other day, and in the body of the message, I typed, "I am sending you the attachment....".

Only I forgot to actually attach the file.  Never fear!  Google popped a warning message, when I hit "Send", as follows:

"You said you were going to send (name of person) an attachment, yet you did not attach a file.  Would you like to try again?"

Two things.  No where in the email was the real name of the person Google showed me in the error.  And, of course, telling me i was sending an attachment, which I forgot to send, was a bit worrisome as well.

This weekend I am going to play with it to see how much they really are comprehending in a message.

At this point, I would pay for an alternative if I knew the alternative would stay out of my business.

Were you emailing someone from your contacts that you had their actual name on their address book entry? Or was it another gmail address?
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

It was not another Gmail address, and I have zero contacts.  I never, ever save anything to any type of contact list, anywhere.

Most likely incase the email gets hacked into, because the hacker will send links to everyone in your contacts with trojan virus' but it would be under YOUR name.  :(

I've been using yahoo for well over a decade. No issues other than I don't care for the "new" format of their screen, but it still works.

I find myself using google anything less and less cept for the Email I use for business. And I even use that all that much as I prefer actual person to person contact.

Even Google search is going down the tube as I find myself getting more the results google feels like giving me on searches rather then the results I'm actually looking for

Rush Limbaugh always talks about Reagan.com, 40 dollars a mo and never scans reads or sells your info.

IMO all the free providers are doing something underhanded, or it wouldn't be free.
