Stick Stiring and Lag?
« on: July 11, 2013, 07:07:09 AM »
I got on a mustang's 6 and had him cold till I saw what I thought was the worst of stick stiring.  :joystick:

I reviewed the film later and watch it from the mustang's plane.  No stick stiring at all.  Several quick turns and rolls but all with in a well modeled plane as you would expect.  From my plane view on the film the mustang was doing some snapy jiggles and turns that was beyond a real plane-pilots ability.

Is it lag that displayed the mustang moves as stick stiring?  That is the mustang's changed direction was faster than lag could show the last change in direction?

Just to be clear, this is not a connection issue.

I think there is also some "smoothing code" built in to try to predict where the other guy is likely to go. This is supposed to smooth his flight path and take into account some amount of lag between his front-end and yours. If he departs from this predicted course fast enough and often enough, it would look to you like stick stirring.

If possible, it would be really cool if you could get someone to film the same fight as you and then send you their film. Then you can watch your film and his, and see exactly what he saw on his computer.

Hate to tell you this, but I just did a trace back to your computer and I am seeing high packet loss in one of AT&T's routers, that lies between your computer and the server.

So, it could be a connection issue.

I should elaborate.  The 30% packet loss is occurring in Georgia, at an AT&T router.  I also noted another router in Bellsouth which is under a high load.  Not dropping packets, yet, but suffering significant response time issues.  It is running about 10 times slower than the rest of the routers in the path.

Given this is not prime time, it is only logical to assume that is will get worse, before it gets better as the day goes on.

The odd thing about the router that is dropping packets is it is not at a boundary between two different ISP's.  It is within AT&T's own network.

"was doing some snapy jiggles and turns that was beyond a real plane-pilots ability".

The potential for these special maneuvers exist only in AH FM
Have you ever seen any spixteen or F-190 in despair? They while try anything to escape.

And I mean Anything. Pulling while inverted zillions of negative Gs and at the same time  they climbing, rolls that make you real dizzy white trying to aim,F4Us or P38s they just sitting in the air like the Su-35 and then they turn like a gyroplane. Anyway the whole scene is just ridiculous.

Take a look at this vid see how a close to reality dogfight should be (at least according to my standards) . No stick stiring no insane maneuvers.

PS And im NOT taking about this eye candy BS issue.

HTC is doing a perfectly balanced  job in this field.

My wingman Shifty and I jumped into Randy1's fight with the warping 51 after having watched from slightly above for a bit and giving Randy a call on range. I didn't keep the film, but the 51 was warping from 200yds out to beside or slightly behind me every couple seconds. I just figured he was having a router/connection problem. Someone else on the radio accused the guy of rapidly unplugging/plugging in his ethernet cable, but I have no idea if that was true or even what the effect would be. I can't see it being deliberate as the 51's viewpoint had to be jumping all over the place too right?

If possible, it would be really cool if you could get someone to film the same fight as you and then send you their film. Then you can watch your film and his, and see exactly what he saw on his computer.

It's been my experience that if you see only one guy on your screen jumping all over, he's having network issues. If you see everyone on your screen jumping all over, most likely you're the one with network issues.

I got a lot of good replies including the router information from Skuzzy.   I withdraw the "Not a connection issue . . " statement. :salute

The network was slow earlier yesterday but seemed fine last night albeit I did not check the network status.  Since Skuzzy ran his test this morning logic suggest it was happening last night as well.  I had heard too Comcast internet crashed yesterday in part of Atlanta

I wonder then if a lot of the stck stiring complaints might more be connection issues?

Just an FYI,right click on clipboard map, look for net status then look at upper graph, varience and delay.  If you see it flatlined then you're good if you see saw tooth spiking then the issue is yours.
