That was epic.

I happened to be near rook strats playing around with the p40f to check high altitude performance and noticed the huge dar bars and put out the notice of a strat raid knowing I might end up too late if I landed and upped my preferred 110g with rockets so stayed and waited in the P40 hoping to pick off an escort.

There was a p38 and 190 a half sector in front of the mission and they blew a bunch of altitude thinking I was going to fight but I wanted to HO through the formation but they were on the ball and turned a few degrees which made HO nearly impossible and I quickly saddled up to see tracers from a bunch of different planes converge on me and instantly toast the p40.

I think LT1963 was able to catch up to the rear and take down two escorts but everybody else upped way too late to stop the city from being dropped to 17%........which greatly extended down times for towns and immediately had rooks losing fields to both enemies.

Only the lone P40 landed a few BBs on the bombers before they dropped on thier target.

I was a little harsh on rooks for resupplying rather than defending because that sends the message that rook strat raids are possible without fear of interception and I've seen raids such as this shot out of the sky even before reaching the target...............just not this time.

Salute great bomber swarm and escorts............it would have been interesting to see how the WG21s worked on the closely packed formation.

I missed this one, but large scale strat runs are a lot of fun if you can get enough people interested. To me they are almost like being miniature scenarios of course with a much more diverse plane set. When we run these I generally fly escort, though I will hop in buffs if they need filling out or I am in the mood to do some level bombing, and when ever 999000 is in the bomber stream I usually keep my escort or buffs near his formation  :lol .

If they want to run to their ack or friendlies that's fine.  It's up to me to catch them and not get killed in the process if I can.

<S> All,
Thanks to everyone who showed up for the BIG mission! I was told by multiple veteran pilots that it was the biggest, most well coordinated mission they had seen in the last decade.  The final count was 96 bombers and 47 escorts airborne at the coast!!!! All factories were hit and the final count for the Industrial Center was 3%, so close, but no cigar.  WTFG Knits!!!  I hope to continue to launch large scheduled missions in the future, and I hope that all will be able to attend.

 :lol Two different missions guys.

999000 was talking about a mission run to the Rook strats earlier in the tour. 49Merlin was referring to the huge country-wide mission put together and planned by the 49th and FB$.

And as a note the country-wide mission was a blast, when you have that many squads and individuals coordinating together it turns into something of a mini scenario (minus the fixed plane set of the enemy of course).
