Longest lived video game
« on: July 13, 2013, 10:16:38 AM »
How many other games than Aces High have survived (let's for argument's sake, say that AH1 and AH2 are the same game) as long?  We're nearing 15 years now if I'm not mistaken.

Not only in flight sim genre (is there even more than 100 players on Il2 anymore?), but all games types considered.  As far back as Ultima -- really an unlimited, all-time, all-type, all-platform comparo.

Wouldn't EverQuest be up there?

Wow I find it hard to believe it has been almost 38 days since our last path. We should have release another 38 versions by now  :bhead

Survived as in are still played or as in are still being supported?

EverQuest was released on 3/16/1999 and its most recent expansion was released on 11/28/2012.

Ultima Online was released on 9/24/1997 and its most recent "booster pack" was on 10/12/2010.

WarBirds was released in 1995.  I am not sure if it is still being developed though.

There may be non-commercial games with longer support.

Either, I guess?

What... You mean you don't think AH is right there in geriatric company?  Anyway, this is totally naive but curious question.  I actually couldn't think of anything older than Ultima.  Warbirds was "dead" last I heard a couple years ago.

I dunno.. Is it still played/developped?

Cause AH is relatively still as active on both dev/player side, as ever.

Neverwinter Nights still has a gigantic modding community and plenty of servers up last I check. Released in 2002.

Runescape, has been around since 2001, getting updates constantly. Heck, they're making a third version last I heard.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

We going that route, then Mario would seem to top everything. :)

John Madden Football would be right up there too in terms of longevity of the franchise but I'm guessing moot meant MMO's.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

If that's the case, I saw a working arcade version of this last year in a little greasy spoon on the road:
