Following the Italian Armistice of September 1943 the Aeronautica Nazionale Republicana (ANR) was formed in Axis-held Northern Italy from pro-Fascist pilots. The 1st Squadron of the ANR became operational in January 1944 with C.205s and was soon active against Allied heavy bombing missions. This aircraft was photographed in February 1944 still painted in its pre-Armistice brown and green scheme but with ANR markings. The ANR switched to a LW style paint scheme in March 1944.
