Bomber gunning and auto pilot, make it optional please!
« on: July 24, 2013, 12:18:14 AM »
flying offline... (no internet, cry!)

Take off in say... an He-111...

Fly up and get behind one of the red drones...
Line up in the slight turn to match their course.
Goto a front gunner station, all lined up...
And, and... and...
And watch as auto-pilot-leveler kicks in and totally messes up your shot.
Instead of a relative to you stationary target, it becomes a cross shot. sigh!

Advanced test...
Match course but a little bit higher to fire with lower front 20mm gun...
Goto that station... siiiigh, auto-pilot totally screws your shot.

HEY HEY, HO HO, AUTO PILOT HAS GOT TO GO!!!
Please make auto-pilot-leveler an OPTION...
HOW TO HIT A PLANE WITH A PILOT IN IT WHEN CAN'T EVEN KILL A DRONE!

All respect, pls HTC, fix it to optional.  :salute

Use your rudder to turn the plane while in the gun position. I've done what you're trying to do offline.

This doesn't have so much do with bombers that have guns pointing out in every direction.

This does have to do with bombers that have fewer guns, and two-seaters that have only one optional gunner.

The point is when we have a shot lined up, then go to the gun station, auto-level changes the facing of the plane and can completely blow the shot.
Just change it so pushing the X key would turn on auto-level, like when flying at the pilots seat.

This is basics for any plane with less guns.

ANYONE HAVE REASON WHY THIS *EASIEST FIX EVER* SHOULDNT BE IMPLEMENTED???

I got a reason, because it's a dumb wish.  you want to practice gunning, fly low and level over a base and shoot away at any buildings or objects.  it's the same thing, you just want to get used to aiming as fast as you can.

if you really want to practice shooting then just fly thru the airplanes making circles over the base, the 2 or 3 seconds of aiming is how long you have if you were in the main arenas.

Holy 'N' button 'FIRE ALL WEAPONS' B-17 dum dum poopy heads fliers!

Check the gun range of motion for the He-111... seems they have (or had) practically NO MOTION at all.
Reality, the pilot was right there, he could turn a bit to help the gunner if required.

Even with the front nose gun, a 20mm, its a challenge to shoot down a fighter even if playing OFF LINE PRACTICE mode.
Like I said, try to line up with the LOWER 20mm gun.

If we could point the plane (WHERE IT WOULD STAY), then go to the gun station, point the gun at a RELATIVELY STATIONARY TARGET, the 111 would be much more effective.

As is: THE HANDICAPT HANGAR QUEEN PLANES:
He-111 can't even defend itself with 2x20mm cannons because couldn't aim more than few degrees AND THEY TOOK FIXED AWAY TO MAKE IT WORSE.
And automatically going into AUTO-PILOT mode messes up 'manned gun' shot every time! TAKE AWAY AUTO PILOT and then it HAS A CHANCE.
 :furious

This makes as much sense and 7.92mm guns with 2000 rounds on the Stuka. (7.92mm on stuka was used as an anti-troop weapon, this game that doesn't have troops wth).
"Oh look, a C47 is coming, I'm going to bail out of my SuperPlane and re-up in a stuka... I'll show those troops!"
And even then, because the Stuka load out HAS TO HAVE A BOMB... if the fighter hangars were down, we can't up a stuka with MG's mode anyways. SWITCH TO SOME 20mm's?
MAKE NO BOMB LOAD OUT AN OPTION.
 :furious

Or 190's 30mm weapons not being able to fire separate with a nose that drifts up... to fight flat flying formations of bombers.
Switching the secondary weapons would make no sense because then its EITHER/OR and not both. Need to be able to ADD 30mm's with the 20mms as required!
 :furious

410's sniper weapons, riiight the way the nose drops, thanks! (I don't care if its less when some of the fuel burns off.)
FIX COMBAT TRIM!

HANDI-LUFT! up up and awaaaay... from AH?

I think he's asking for the autopilot to be off when switching to a gun position. I get the wish but doubt they will do it.

Try trimming the 410 and 190 if you're having trouble. I trim the 410 when I use the melon launcher. I trim the Stuka w/ the 37s. Increased my hit rate.

<Salute> Buck, yes, exactly, so that when I'm in my He-111, or 410, stuka, or anything else that has a gun in the back...

And I'm dogfighting that enemy fighter, and we aren't flying puuuurrfectly straight, I can still line him up, then go to the gun, and fire.
As is, auto-pilot totals messes up any possibility of getting a hit if you are flying upside down backwards in a 90degree turn.

In American heavies, this stuff doesn't matter so much because they have guns pointed out in every direction. Which is why they just mostly fly straight.
In smaller bombers, with less guns, lining up for the shot is important!!!

Auto-level is GREAT, it has its uses, but in some cases it defeats the cause of getting the shot and surviving! So I wish it to be an option.

Hence: auto-level doesn't engage until we push the button.

OK think about this.  up any fighter then let an enemy get behind you, let go of the controls look back pretending you're a gunner and see what happens.

what you are asking for is not really what you want.

For the 111, like this: I would be trying to follow a fighter up, get close enough behind with fighter at center of screen, then go slightly higher to catch him with the lower 20mm also.
Kinda like in a fighter, soon as what you are chasing becomes stationary, relative to you, its a good time to fire, or in bomber case, go to gunner station, and fire.

I bet the 111 can do some stuff just like other big planes, with some E...
Again, American heavies, arguably, have a better chance to just fly level and go to one of the gun stations, push N to fire all weapons, not smaller bombers, especially those without fixed front firing weapons.

franz what you dont understand is without the autopilot the airplane will not follow the last course set.  like I suggested before fly any airplane  then let go of the controls and see if the airplane follows the last course, gains altitude or rolls and goes in a dive.  and that's what is going to happen if you switch from the pilot to the gunner without autopilot.

have you tried shift x before moving to the gunner position?  that should keep you on a shallow dive or climb with autopilot on when you move to the gunner's position.

Semp,
To put this nicer, I know exactly what I want in this request, and worded it exactly without ambiguity.
It seems you think you found an ambiguity in the factor of time.
I did NOT say I expected the plane to go FOREVER with an unchanged flight path.
Why you would assume that, is only making an arse out of yourself, not of me.

Hitech,
I'm glad you stopped by in this thread, at least you can make your decision about it.
There is another thread in wishlist also, about controlling the whole plane from the gunner station also.
http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,350710.0.html
This current thread has a much simpler wish, just to disable, have it in options maybe like the "automatically put combat trim on" option. If you already saw it then ok, sorry for assuming you didn't.
Thanks for reading this stuff.  :salute
