F1 2011 is the better of the Codemaster's series. They got lazy and took out a lot of depth in 2012

Not with following Mods it isn't.

The audio is so immersive in these games Im thinking of upgrading my sound card. Whats a really good sound card? And while Im at it I should probably upgrade my power. I have an awful lot on USB now. Including a USB-3 external. I have a Digital Storm Assassin with an i7, 12 gigs Ram, a GTX580, 750 wt power, onboard sound which is OK but I could do better.

So Im thinking new sound, 1200 wt power, and eventually a Vidcard upgrade after.

Unlike the 90s I don't think external sound cards are any better than on board mobo chip sound processors.  Better off to invest in some good quality headphones.  SteelSeries Sibera v2 are amazing and good value.

I suggest speaker upgrade if you do not have 5.1 setup. I have Logitech Z680....best PC speakers ever made.

Thanks I have some MAudio's, from my fire wire mixer when I was doing video, which sound pretty good. Mybe I'll just upp power and video card. Should I go SLI with another 580 or get a newer single card?

So I downloaded F1 2012 to give the franchise another shot.

Playing career mode, done 2 races (50% length) so far.   I have to say that so far it does feel like they have improved the AI drivers, haven't had anybody blindly turn into me, or ram me from behind yet.

So that's an improvement over the 2010 game, however now I have a whole new gripe and that is the difficulty setting.  Granted I'm not a hardcore racing gamer, I don't have a wheel, I play with the same Logitech 3d joystick I played AH with.  But I do like a good challenge so I start and run the first race (Australia) on "professional" difficulty, with me racing in a Caterham.  AAAAnnnd I got whupped so bad it's not even funny, I expected to be near the rear in a Caterham, but I qualified dead last, and finished the race dead last, I couldn't even get near the other cars at my level like the other Caterham or the Marrusias or HRTs, they where all several tenths a lap faster no matter how hard I tried.

So I decide I'm in over my head and drop the difficulty level to "intermediate" for the next race in Malaysia.  Low and behold on intermediate I put a Caterham on pole by half a second  :lol and finish 3rd in the race only because my pit crew is slower then cold tar and 2 cars jumped me in the stops.  :lol

What a joke...  seems like they got the difficulty settings all messed up, where for the average player "professional" = impossible, and only one step down "intermediate" means you can dominate in a Caterham....     They definitely need another setting in between it seems to me.

A film I did for 2010, mainly about hotlaps
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0uAz9FOvUM

Afilm for 2011
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSNWoSD7KCE

Both films were on the hardest difficulty settings without driver aids.

I would have done a 2012 one, but a Force Feedback motor burned out and without any feeling to the 'car' I was the Jean Denis Deletraz of the game  :cry

A fun flying racing game I've been flying lately is Altitude 0, or A0 for short. It's supposed to go open beta this week. Check it out: http://www.altitude0.com/home

Uhm, how about trying Red Bull in professional and you might rank up where you belong against the pro level drivers (i.e. in the last 2 positions).

I think you misunderstood my complaint.

All I'm saying is that they need a difficultly level between. "Getting lapped by HRTs" and "Winning pole and every race in a Caterham"

Like I' said, I'm nowhere on professional setting, and on intermediate I'm leading the championship in a Caterham... easily.     Seems like an awfully big leap.  It is just a game for entertainment purposes is it not?  If you're going to do variable difficulty, then do it right.

Whats a good racing game? What kinda hardware do you need? Thanks

I'm liking the Dirt series.  I've played Dirt 1 & 2 and they were pretty good, IMO.  Looking forward to 3.  Just using keypad for controls... (that sucks, but do-able.)

Wasn't Grand Prix Legends pretty well respected for its driving model?

Grand Prix legends is a milestone in racing sim history for sure. I guess we won't ever see again a sim with that approach.  I  remember buying my first computer and that game shortly after, I wasn't interested in other racing sims. It was the closest thing to the "real deal" to my understanding. However, some time later, I discovered the best GPL drivers used a "driving technique" inapplicable to real life (after final official patch), so I became somewhat disillusioned with that sim. I can accept performance figures for cars being slightly off, but having to "learn the game" instead of just "lear to drive" (in addition to inherent pc simulation compromises) made spending hours of fustration (inherent to racing sims :) ) in front of the wheel less appealing. That was (is) my ingenuous ambition: "learn to drive a sports car"... on the cheap.  I'm not a good driver, FWIW.

Maybe things have changed since then, with community hacks or whatever, I don't know.

Nobody mentioned that in fact there are other options to logitech g27. You should check thrustmaster t500 rs and fanatec products at least. I don't know which is better.
