They are both amphibious AFV's.  The 2 carries grunts and a few MG's.  The 4 carries a 75 mm howitzer and some MG's.

LVT(A)4

Armament: 75L17 gun (short barrel 75mm
howitzer) on an open topped turrent
          1 .50 Cal AAMG
          2 .30 Cal MGs

.30 Cal may or may not be included.

I believe the LVT(A)2 is the 37mm armed version. ("A" is for "attack" or "assualt"?)

Both the LVT2 and LVT4 used the improved Amtrac body that allowed for about twice the speed of the LVT1's and (A)1's on land. They are still slow however.

I thought "A" stands for "Armored"?

Bah on the converted LVT(A)-1's had inclosed turrents...usually limited to the Marine Corps, with either 37mm or flame throwers.

otoh this means the LVT(A)2 will have two .50 cal mounts, and two .30 cal mounts. Whether all will be used remains to be seen.

Pyro clarrified this all in another post.

Quote
The 2 will carry troops and the 4 sports a 75mm howitzer. The (A)2 were just armored versions of the LVT2. Other LVT2's were modified later for with the armor but no change in designation was made. So what we could get could be the LVT2 or LVT(A)2 depending on how you look at it. Either way, I think it's desirable to have something armored for that role.
